New plugs and still no spark.

I posted a couple of days ago thinking my engine was flooded. I unflooded it a couple of times and decided to get new plugs as everyone figured it needed. I just repeated the process and put new plugs in and still no start. The engine turns and I'm getting fuel because the leading plugs are soaked each time I take them out. So I guess my problem is spark. Should I check the coil packs (I've got an s5 btw)? I'm also kind of worried because it all started when I went to start it one day and it kind of gurgled and shut off after 2 seconds.

I just checked the resistance on my coils and they are below one ohm on both, so I'm kind of stuck on where to go from here... Hopefully I don't need to borrow a compression tester.

have you actually taken the spark plug out to see if it sparks or are you just assuming it doesn't spark.

No. You check the black/yellow wire at the coil two socket plug to see if you have 12vdc there. No voltage? Make sure the ENGINE fuse in the interior is good. If good then check the EGI fuse and Main fuses in the engine bay.

pull the plug wire off and put an old plug in the end of the wire.. have someone crank the car and see if any spark is comming out of the plug.... DONT HOLD THE WIRE... if no spark suspect a coil or EGI fuse.. I would check the main fuses under the hood on the drivers fender.. then check all your fuses under the dash.. and check for spark on ALL 4 wires...

yea but it works.

i hope you don't have to change those coils cuz there friggin' expensive. the best thing to do is to go to bumper to bumper or napa or whatever and get a spark tester. its got one end usually connected to a clear glass cylinder with 2 electrodes inside and then sticking out the other side is like the continuation of a plug wire. all you do is put this in between your plug and the wire and crank it over and you will be able to see the if there is any spark. also check your timing while your at it

Actually I was wrong about the fuses IF the fuel pump IS working. If the pump works, then the engine and egi fuses are good.

We should have asked the standard question: Does the tach needle twitch when your trying to start the engine? IF yes, then you do have spark.

What Mazdafiend/1 recommended might work. It seems several people have had the afm kill the ref voltage to the ECU causing a non start. FYI, the engine will start without the afm elect plug connected. Try it. It'll run til you reach 500rpm then die if the afm plug is not attached.
