Guess the Color

Slowly but surely its going to get there
I can only work on her on the weekends
I have all the S5 stuff to install
bumpers, lights, mirrors and moldings

Its going to be a 360' degree turn around from how it is now

How's the car been driving now that its running again?
You'll have to come buy the lower mainland sometime, we can show each other our projects.
Should come in at the $2500 mark, but that deoesn't include the drivers door skin, replaced as an ICBC claim. That claim paints the door and moldings, plus a bit over the front and back fenders. I figured with all of the work being done now was the time to do it all. The only piece not getting paint is the Feed lip I have yet to buy I have located one in the US, but shipping is proving difficult (expensive). I removed most of the moldings, bumpers and lights for that price.

Boyd's Collision in Sooke is getting the nod for the work, they do good work and have a lifetime garauntee on the paint, they are part of the Boyd Auto Group with many outlets across North America.

Yes, I would like to get to Vancouver with it, possibly this summer, then would be a good time to hook up.

A little less then 2000km on the rebuild so far, makes good power, solid so far considering it hasn't seen the 5/6 ports open up yet. It feels like it makes more power then the original engine, but then again I didn't have the header and pipes on then either!

It took 4 hours to prep the engine bay
cleaning and scrubbing it down with simple green
I did not remove the wiring harness's
I simply took them off the clips and pushed them over the side by the frame rails
I did remove the wiper motor and all the brackets etc

I'm only painting the engine bay(so far only got the engine bay done)
door jams, inside of doors , rear wing, mirrors and sunroof then dropping of the car at a Paint Shop to get get sprayed in a Paint Booth

This should save me about a $1000

how hard would it be to change the color of a car, I mean everything (under hood ... ect) and would it change the isurence color listing? I would hate to get into a accident after payin 2500 just to have them paint my car its original color

Yes, the quotes came in between $2000-3500 CDN, considering the work the insurance claim was covering on the driver's side. Add (or in this case, remove) from that about $450 work of R&R work that I am into it for and the dust should settle at about $2500 CDN.

Sounds about right, doesn't it?

Now ths is completely different story, changing the colour when done the right way is a whole lot more work

Just open the hood, doors, hatch etc. etc and it wouldn't take long to add tons of cash to a 're-paint'

I'm not quite sure about your last statement: I would hate to get into a accident after payin 2500 just to have them paint my car its original color

Any accident after getting your car painted any colour, even the original would be a major bummer!

I agree! if you doing it the right way it would take a long time first you have to stripe eveything down to the chasiss then paint everthing and put it back together, the hard parts is putting it back with out any extra parts left

Well I know they don't do much prepping the car so If you do it yourself mabey their paint sticks better..No idea..
I have a friend who painted his white car yellow at macco and he didn't have mud gaurds so it chipped all the paint behind the wheels all over..Soo ugly but kinda cool..
Soon I will be Prepping and Painnting My own car Crystal White again..
As u can see all the paint is peeling off..Previous owner didn't wax it and mabey being in Oklahoma weather played a part.

Yeah, I am curious about prepping for paint here too. What did you use to strip? Did you go down to the metal or just to the primer?

Also, did you say that you sprayed your own primer before taking it to Maaco? If so, how did that go?

Just looking for some info. I too, am looking to get a paint job. But, I would like to save as much $$ as possible.

i used a product called Klean Strip, Auto Strip Formula A.
For all the prep work, well i striped the hood and both fenders down to metal but the rest of the car down to the primer except for the spots that needed some bondo i strpied that to teh metal and roughened it up with 80 grit so the bindo would stick. I word of advice is to make sure u take your time and dont rush do it right and it will look good. This was the first time i did any body work so i just laerned as i went, Good Luck.
