New owner of a RX7

Hello guys, I bought a RX about a week ago and have been working on the coolant system and redoing most of the fluids. Its a 1989 Mazda RX7 GXL with 123k total miles and a rebuilt engine about 20k. I just replaced the water pump, the hoses, and working on the thermostat now. It's white and very clean. Hope to see to talk more with you guys on here.

Welcome to the Forum. Good luck with the car. Just some info on the club here: 1. try to do a search before asking something you will usually find the answere without posting a thread(most things have been talked to death here so some people get tired of answering the same question every other day) 2. If you do not know something and don't want to look foolish by asking on the forum PM someone that is likely to know(although I am not very knowledgable fell free to ask me questions over the PM system I wll try to answer to the best of my knowledge) 3. I hope you understand that the FC(rx-7 86-91) is not a toyota or a honda and does require someone special to keep it in tip top shape and somethings will cost a kidney or a limb so be prepared for some expensive maintenace. 4. Besure you keep the tune-ups on schedule and if at all possible ahead of schedule Download the FSM from fc3s.org or iluvmyrx7.com and start reading it.

I bought the car off my friend Justinss who is registered here on the forum, I will show you a picture he took when he bought it for those of you that don't remember.

I have been working on the coolant system here lately, only thing I have left is to replace the water pump rear gasket. I have replaced the thermostat redid the housing, replacedthe water pump and front gasket. The car has a new radiator already.

Welcome to the forum, and good timing because the thermostat is one of those sensitive items on these cars. Be sure to replace the old thermostat with a Mazda brand thermostat. The aftermarket thermostats are junk. Read the factory service manual so that you install the thermostat with the jiggle pin in the proper position, and be sure to note the tightening torque on the thermostat cover as this is one of the most often ruined pieces on these cars because some people refuse to follow the manual. Properly filling and bleeding the cooling system is also a bit tricky.

These sites have manuals, as well as other good information.

Price

I bought the car for 2k pretty good deal if you ask me. Yes, I replaced the thermo with a mazda one and made sure the housing was correctly did. Hope to talk to you guys here in the near future. Oh and another question there is a hose on the back of the water pump housing. a lil bit on the small side and looks like it runs back onto the engine. Is there a specific name for this hose so that I can buy a new one and know what I am talking about when I do so.
