go to any forum for old cars and you will get the impression that they are all going to ****

anyway, turbo or N/A ? You should be just fine with that low of mileage/kilometers as long as it has good compression. Just do the preventative maintainance, like changing the thermostat etc. Change the oil regularly and make sure to wind it out (hear the buzzer) at least once a week to prevent carbon breakup

i had an rx7 that ran perfect once. it was nice. it was a beautiful bright red 88NA. It glistened in the sun as it ran 16.8's all ****** day. I was sixteen and happy.
Now i have three of the ******* and one doesn't have an engine, one needs a rebuild, and there are so many things wrong with the third that i don't even know where to start.

so.. uh.. is yours all stock?

Well mine hasn't had any problems yet(the sig refers to a dead battery upon car delivery and learning how to opperate my aftermarket alarm/remote start), but I've only had it for 5 days hehe. I got the same impression but every time I drive it I am reassured. also I get it checked out by a rotary specialist who has a 590 bhp Rx7. I'm a new owner as well but you'll love this site and welcome to the family. Read the Forum rules and obey them and you'll fit in fine. Comment in my Vb garage if you have time, nobody has yet.....

I hate it when I'm talkin with people, (and by people I mean, South Central Minnesota), and they ask what I have, and I tell them it's an RX-7 from the 80's. And they're all like, oh so it's a slow piece of ****.
And they're all like, "My camero/mustang can take anything off the line."
And I say, "Sweet, Camero/Mustang's RULE!"
And then they say, "I know, do you got a Stang/Maro?"
And I say, "No, I have an 80's RX-7."
And they say, "Doesn't that thing have a rotary valve?"
And I say, "Yes."

I usually have to draw out pictures of what the engine is like... and then just give up and tell them its a big 2 stroke.

^^ the funny thing is, at that time a T2 was just as fast as a 5.0 AND it could take a turn

I was feeling the samething, even months before I bought the car. Every car has their own quirks as you read thru the forums. My car had 171k when I bought her, but she runs fine. Just read up and analyze the car carefully to see if it's within your budget and time, from there you can determine if this car is worth the blood sweat and tears. But in my opinion, I love the damn car and would easily put in extra time and effort for it.

people ask me what it has and i say its a 1.3 liter 2 banger.
i have a 90 gxl and ive never had a problem with it. it just doesnt like cold weather. the only reason why you see "horror stories" on the forum is because its simply a place to get help when something goes wrong. but you can ask anybody who has a 7 that runs and they will probably tell you its that greatest car in the world.

A lot of them run great til some dumb *** mechanic who calls rotors triangular pistons starts messing with them. If that doesn't get them a lot of us just can't stop modifying them and we all know when people first start modding there own car they're bound to have some headaches along the way. Hell, I take my car apart every winter to upgrade or paint or remove something. LOL. If you don't want to end up posting a lot of "My car won't start" threads, do yourself a favor and find a good rotary specialist or educate yourself before you start the mods. Just my 2 cents. Congrats on joining the rotorheads!

My seat bracket broke today and It took me a few hours to custom fab it so it will be safe. One of my friends says why didn't you just buy a nice car instead of the rx7.

I responded that I love how the car feels and how it moves, I would gladly put up with all the problems just to drive it.

Maybe in a few years I will pickup a 3rd gen and fix it up.

i would like to say my car runs perfectly fine as of now. i do spirited driving everyday, launches occasionally, and redline once or twice a day. however, when i first got her she had a vac leak and there was some coolant leak, got the vac leak fixed and the coolant leak dissappeared by itself wtf? ahaha so it runs PERFECT AS OF NOW! BASE 7 with street port , beautiful 17 year old paint, if u dont believe me check out my thread https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/my-s4-base-fc-w-pictures-508559/. To find a vac. leak, first do a good visual inspection, then if you can't see anything; get the car running (turn up the idle if you have to) and spray 'carb cleaner' on all of the different places where you know there are vac. lines, or you think there are vac. lines. If there is a vac. leak, the carb-cleaner will get sucked in and temporarily fix the (crappy) idle, so the idle will smooth out and increase in speed. Just narrow it down to a specific spot and then start inspecting lines etc.
