electrical problem i'm stumped

drove my car last night and ran into some serious trouble.

started my car last night drove it about 2mi. i started to smell wire frying, all my gauge lights went out, then my car started to lose power and finally died. my main fuse blew. i looked at it today and found out that my alternator belt broke last night as well. i fixed it and found that my steering column (or whatever its called) had snagged the body harness (alternator, starter harness) and exposed some of the wires and that's what was melting and caused my main fuse to blow. well i fixed both the belt and re wrapped the exposed wire harness and moved it out of the way. my interior lights are still out though.

what caused my guage lights to go out? and why wont they come back on. the car will start but my interior lights are still out. does that harness have anything to do with the interior? yes i checked the fuses inside the car. i'm stumped and dont know what to do. thanks for your help guys

Head lights are a different circuit and fuse, and should not be confused with parking ligts or dash lights (both of which are also different wires coming out of the switch).
