New Oil!!

hey everyone, just wondered what you all thought about me putting Castrol 20W50 Syntec into my 90 vert on my next oil change??? would it be beneficial? or should i just use the GTX?

Depends kinda on the climate Syntec works great in colder areas.

AACK!!! From what I have heard, the synthetics dont burn as well in the combustion chamber. Remember, your car injects oil. This causes ash deposits.

Really? All the RX guys in Alaska have told me to ONLY use synthetics in my rotary. Why wouldnt the synthetic burn as well??

i thought earlier synthetic versions didnt burn well...but that myth was squashed?? so is it o.k. to use the castrol syntec? or just look for castrol gtx?

The Alaska guys might have said that because synthetics can be pumped faster (less resistance to flow) when they are cold. It probably make the car easier to start in severe cold and gets oil to everthing quicker. I too have heard over and over not to use synthetics in a rotary that is still using the MOP. I use GTX20/50 but it never gets below 20 degrees here so..........

There was a big write up about it about 6 months ago concerning the synthetic vs. regular topic. There are some that say the flash point and ash content of the synthetics are higher then the petrol. based oils. This means they burn slower, and could leave deposits. I tried searching for the thread but I didnt come up with anything.

It could very well be that synthetics have been improved and they burn better, but I am sticking with Castrol GTX. That seems to be the preferred oil for most rotary people.

Ya all I use in every car is Catrol GTX 20w50. I don't see a reason to change that unless you live in a cold climate. Go for 10w30 then.
