new hood idea

after glancing at the idea for the extended TII scoop, and visiting hachirocku.net because we got a corolla today...anyway they have this write up for a dropvent hood that is interesting and what do you guys think about doing this on an FC? just wondering i have mixed thoughts about it but i think it would be...original.

incase you care, here is the page:

i like that 240sx one too, i dunno if i would want to pay 5-6 hundred for that hood oni-kyan, at the beginning of the hachi and 240 site, they talk about not wanting to pay a lot of money for the same look, but it is still good looking.

I'd like to see a 2nd "ram air" scoop/inlet located in the front of the hood that forces air into the airbox filter area.

That's pretty nice. I wonder if he also plans to make new radiator shrouds to mate up with it.

How much frontal downforce do you think a hood like that adds at freeway speeds if you had a fan shroud that mated with it? The air is being diverted up and over the car rather then across the engine and down the firewall to the underside, so technically it should reduce drag and increase downforce, right?

The only downside I could see is that the engine components don't recieve the fresh air they normall would and things might suffer from the increase heat (the wiring harness, plastic bits, etc.)

well for now i just run an electric fan seeing as this was made to mate up to a v mount intercooler soo air is chaneled through it their was also a nice drop in engine temp what you do with your fan is up to you but I can work on the idea of a fan shroud that would mate to it.

I'd like that 5one5 hood.. but..with a vent over the turbo area too..

Speaking of which, seeing as my steelie NA hood is worth negative money ..I should put it on my T2 when it's FMIC, and cut a hole above the turbo area. :-)

that could be easy to fabricate using the techniques from the other sites. You could bend towars the windshield rather than away and do a tad bit of ducting.

Mael, the hood for the S13 would look GREAT on an FC!!!! Let me know if you decide to adapt it to work on the FC. I also like your original design. You know I'm always around if you need help with anything like testing or setting things up.

HEY thats my idea... lol

I am going to do just that with my extra hood I have, my only question is this.

Do you think the inconsistency of the airflow (swirling around in the CAI housing) would cause problems at all?

If you're running a turbo then no, it won't matter a bit. And I honestly don't see it hurting anything on an N/A car either.

I didn't figure it would same principle as on my dads 70 judge, just forces more air into the chamber just didn't know if the filter would have issues with it being crammed down its throat...

Nad, if you think about it a turbo is doing the exact same thing. Only it's sucking the air in instead of getting it shoved in from the scoop. And tell your dad nice car!!!!!!

^bump^

Hopefully we can get some more input for vented hoods. I know that Mael is working on two designs for FC owners.
