new here and looking for advice

Helow, well its nice to be here and I hope this site can help me. I just bought a 1987 RX7 for $500.00 canadian and its got 116,000 kms on it. The body and undercarriage are in excellent condition but it has been sitting for the last 3 years in storage and it runs but I think the rear chamber has no compression. So I was wondering if anyone thinks I would be better off buying a rebuilt or doing it myself. I have mechanical experience and Ive ripped apart a rotary motor before (but never put it back together) but I want to know if its worth it to rebuild it. Thanxs. Oh yeah, does anyone know where to get a rebuilt. Thanxs again

If you decide to rebuild get the video on how to rebuild from atkins rotary.com It helped me with my rebuild My car runs great it cost about $1,000 it was a cool learning experience as well You can also get the rebuild motor from there or mazdatrix.com Also check out rotaryresurrection.com for more info on the parts you need and other good advice.

I would do a compression check just to make sure that it isn't a spark/fuel issue. If there is no compression, go for a rebuild.
Otherwise, if you have compression, than you will need to troubleshoot the problem.

Its worth to rebuild if there is no damage to the engine. When an apex seal breaks, it could damage the rotor and housing. You will then need to source an additional core/parts. Sometimes its best to go with a rebuilder. It all depends on your budget, mechanical experience, parts availabililty, and cost.
