Smile New Here

Hey everyone, I just bought my first RX-7 yesterday so I figured I'd join! I bought an 88 GTU N/A with 154K Miles on it. The drivers side fender is bent a little, the interior is almost completely taken apart and is piled into the back. The spoiler is ripped off, the motor turns but doesnt start, and the exhaust is missing parts lol.

However, the price was right cuz I only paid 700 bucks for it. Currently it's sitting in my garage just waiting for me to put her back together. The kid that had it before me obviously didnt know what the hell he was doing, which is why it's in it's current condition.

Anyway I will try to get the motor running, and if not I will probably take it out, sell it, and put a 350 V8 in it. Once I get home tonight I'll post some pictures of the work I have cut out for me, lol.

Yeah, I think it's my best option. From what I understand the 13b motor that I have is the slowest of all the rotary's. I'm guessing you guys dont like v8 swaps or something? lol.

13BT is the only swap I would consider. With the right (factory) parts, very straightforward.

BTW, yes. Putting pistons in an RX-7 is by most accounts a sin.

You can easily get 300 rwhp with a 13-bt. And its a direct bolt-on with mods to the exhaust , turbo, ecu and fuel delivery.

You have many swap options:
13b-re
13b-t
20b-t (a bit crazy for a daily driver if you ask me)

This definately will not be a daily driver. I would probably consider putting the 13b-t in there if I could find one. This is pretty much one of maybe 3 rx-7's that are in this general area of ohio lol. If I can get the motor running I might consider doing a rebuilt. The kid said the guy that had it before him might have bridge ported it. Which would make me very happy. :-P

Get a J-spec engine, they are cheap and really easy to get.

If you want insane amounts of power, the 20b-t is waiting for you

Go visit the 500hp club thread.
