new guy here..

hey everyone, im just new to the forum but have been a long time fan of rx-7s. umm right now im going through a phase in my life where i want to buy a car but want it to be somewhat fast and look kinda decent. and since i cant afford a newer rx7 why not an older one? right now im driving an S-10... if anybody knows what that is its a Truck... yes a truck. I actually had plans of lowering it with airbags and what not but seeing as that truck is a money pit, i've only installed a system and a new grille and new bumper... and now im kind of tired of it so my question to you guys is... i'm in the market for a new car.. preferably a 2nd gen rx7. can you guys point out some key things i should look for? maybe list some models i should look after... no convertables, maybe a turbo.... if not a n/a but list a kit on where i can get a turbo for it... sorry for probably asking questions you guys here probably every day but im really in a pickle here.. im kinda stuck between a 240sx or an rx-7 since they look somewhat similar yet the engines are totally different....so what do you guys reccomend?

What do we recommend? This is an RX-7 forum. I'll give you 3 guesses as to what we would recommend, the first 2 guesses don't count.

I prefer 2nd generation over others not for the reason of prices and such. Personally 2nd generation has cleaner and classic sports car profile compare to 1st or 3rd gen. and it seem to stands out in a croud.

And, welcome aboard.

You know that is the nicest thing iive ever heard someone say about our wonderfull cars.
As for what we would reccomend yes were all going to recomend rx7's but you have to understand some basic stuff.
A N/A, if well taken care of is going to give you virtually no problems, and they last a really long time.
A TII is one hell of a great and fun car BUT most if not all have some kind of issue to fix. Your going to need more skill to have a TII

It really sounds like you want a turbo but just be prepared. If you do research youll see what i mean. But youll also see how much we love our cars to death in here

Go for the TII, you won't regret it. Like any older car there will be some maintanance, but I've been plesently surprised by the lack of problems.

The performance of the car is great, even by today's standards. It's extremely well designed in every respect. A 240sx certainly has nothing over it. People do the SR20DET swap, but it's hardly cost effective when compared to a TII. Cars that appear on paper comparable to the TII fall short on a track because of the all round strength and lack of weaknesses.

Things to be carefull of: High Millage TII engines. Like any high performance engine, they don't last as long as your typical Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. Rotary engines are particularly suseptable to poor maintanance.

Check out the how to buy sections here:
