Question New FC... new problems.

Ok, so I'm brand new to the rotary scene after working on and owning purely V-8s.... I planned on throwing a 383 stroker in the car when I bought it, but I fell in love with the rotary. I think I'm just going to keep the 13b... but the car definately has some problems and I'm on a tight budget after a $530 speeding ticket. The exhaust is rusted out and is obnoxiousley loud. The sunroof was ripped off at a high speed and is all jacked up. It's hard as HELL to shift into first gear early in the morning. The ignition coil was stripped out because the car was stolen and then recovered. The wipers don't always work. The e-brake isn't as tight as it should be. When the tranny gets too hot, the gears grind and I lose 1st, 3rd and 5th gear. It hesitates at 3800 like no ones business. It shoots out white smoke early in the morning for about 5 minutes. I put a MazdaSpeed short shifter in and the shifter is now loose. And lastly, theres this insane vibration coming from somewhere ( I think the tranny) and I dunno what it is.... its like an extremely rapid loud rattling that is almost like a grinding but not quite. I can't describe it.
I found a 13bt swap for 600 bucks tranny and everything, but i dunno what problems (if any) that will solve and since my budget is tight, I need to diagnose and treat the most serious problems first. Can anyone tell me the order in which I should work, and some possible problems and solutions? I would be very grateful.

welcome to the RX7

solutions...

1. rusted exhaust-Racing Beat full exhaust ($3-400 used, $6-900 new) (2.5" and 3")

2. i think its time for a new transmission...lol. youll definately want to get a turbo transmission if your doing a 13bt swap. it can handle more power.

3.new ignition switch

4. 3800 RPM hesitation-remove the upper intake manifold and clean the ground that bolts to the secondary fuel injectors. you can also add an additional ground to the ECU (secondary control ground) not sure what PIN it is so search for it. clean up all other grounds you can find.

5. not enough information to figure out how to fix the sun roof.

6. clean the windshield wiper ground. its located under the grill under the windshield.

if your exhaust is rusted on the piping or a flat surface one ghetto temporary trick is to cut up a coke can and duct tape it to the pipe.

It's nice to know you decided to keep the rotary.

Have you check your synchros?

This has been discussed before, often. Check the FAQ.

Check for any slack in the cable.

I don't think white smoke for 5 minutes is "normal" at any time.

I'd like to order the new RB full exhaust for $600, please.
You're gonna sell 'em like hotcakes at this price since RB has them listed for well over a grand.

That rattle/grind is probably a synchro or something in your tranny. Ive had this same rattle for a while but the tranny shifts fine. Id just drive it until it breaks...

Thanks you guys... I appreciate all the help... seems like I have a lot of work to do. I have to be at a sociology class in an hour, but looks like I'll be at my buddy's garage. Thanks again for the help.
