Unhappy new e-fan, still over heating, ready to buy rx8

Well,
i picked up a new e-fan, and it isn't doing too much. I dont know what is up with the car right now. The thermo-switch is in a good spot and all that jazz, but the fan doesnt kick on (fan works when hooked directly to battery.) Im ready to sell this thing and go and get an rx8.

curious on this. the little sensor at the bottom of the radiator, what does that do.? noticed it wasnt hooked up, so i hooked it up, have no clue what it does.

hopefully i get this going, so i can get to the new years eve party in chicago (those faces are what i look like right now)

E-fan does not mean better than stock bro. A good working stock fan will pull a lot of air. 20 bucks at a junk yard would have fixed your prob.

i know i know, stock fan. believe me, i woulda went stock fan, but my "good friends" at pep boys didnt have that (and no junkyards within my vicinity). I did\am flushing radiator now. The entire radiator is staying warm, and the temp is staying down. seems to me like it was or is clogged. hopefully it sould be gone. and eyah it is the OEM t-stat. i dont trust the guys around here (parts stores). they told me my rx7 came with an electric fan, i had to show em out at the car that it did not.

Go back to the main forum's page. Go down all the way to where it says rx-7 parts for sale. Click on it and go into the second gen section. Look around for a stock fan. It probably won't be more than 25 bucks. Send that e-fan back to the store and get your cash back and pay for an OE one.

I got the rad. all flushed. that seemed to be my problem. the fan cant pull hot air if there is none for it to pull. seemed that the radiator was clogged prettty close to the top. and the little thermal switch, i misread the directions on it (go figure). it says to splice into any 12v keyt activated circuit. i thought it meant that you could have the option of it being turned on whenever you want. which wire should i tap into for this?

Smile

got it. it is a pretty hoaky set up right now, but its working, although.......i didnt have enough bling bling to get the adjustable switch deal, so i got the one that goes on at 180*.........it goes on, but the temp gauge is like around 50% or so. its not overheating though which makes me a happy man and allows me to "party up" tonight. thanks

*edit*......i'll still be on the look out for an fd or rx8.

Fan doesnt seem to be pulling enough air. So i figure that my stock fan might not have been bad (just that my radiator was clogged up....go figure) I'm going to see if i can maybe fit both the stock fan and the e-fan. Is this a good idea? or is it just a waste of my time. Eh, i got nothing else going on today so i'll go mess with it.

Throw the e-fan back out onto the street to be run ova.

Put only the stock fan on the car.

Well, that is my plan. On my way home from chicago, good ol fc was overheating. so I pulled over. Luckily my buddy in his 325is was heading home with us, so he was there to help. The radiator took in almost a gallon of coolant. I dont knowif i got a leak, but it was pretty dry. well (good thing i listened to the "what emergency stuff do you keep in your car") cause i had my premix on me. well i go to start the car up and boom, something went nutz. I lost all my power. I think my fan blew my voltage regulator. once again, luckily the beemer was with so he jumped my car. The lights flickered and all that good stuff when I got on the breaks. luckily i got back to the shop (where i am now), im going to put back the stock fan, return the efan and all that jazz (get back the 120 bucks) and hope my voltage regulator didnt blow up.
