plans for tom, gutting cat's and installing a cone air filter. My question is the air filter and adapter have no were for the air pump hose to attach, Should i remove it and what all do i do to remove it??? I have a 87 T2

If you don't want to remove your air pump (if you have to smog), then you can just buy a small breather filter for that hose. You can pick one up at most car parts stores.

 

Put a small filter on it, if you just want to leave it on. Although with the gutted cat, you don't need it anymore.

Haha, it's pretty easy to remove... Unbolt, take off with belt, you're done.

The hose coming off the back goes to the ACV which feeds air to the cat. If you're gutting your cats then there is no purpose in this at all! You should block off the ACV at the same time as removing the airpump, but yes all it is is taking it off. Not hard at all.

 

do you have to block off the ACV when you remove the air pump? sorry for the noob question but i havent looked too much into the emmisions stuff.

also when you remove it and the AC what size belts do you get?

 

Well IIRC the ACV dumps a small amount of the air it receives from the airpump into the intake manifold at times, but if there is no airpump and the ACV is still open to the atmosphere I'd think that would be bad. Unless you unplugged the ACV switching solenoid, not 100% on this.

 

ok, that sorta answers my question. what i should have asked is besides the hoses that go to the cat and stock air box, does the airpump have any other openings.

 

No, air goes into the pump from the air box or mini filter, whatever you have, and it exits to the ACV via a single hose.

 

ok, i just looked in the FSM and all i could see are the connections to the stock air box, cat and acv. if you removed it could you just cap the connection to the ACV and be fine?

 

Just tie a sock over the airpump hose temporarily until you get a real filter or remove the airpump.

 

lol, youd be surprised at how many socks are found in 944s... and i have a filter on there now, but if i dont need the airpump id rather remove it.

I would say so yes. Unplug the ACV switching solenoid too maybe so it doesn't try to suck any air in while capped.
