new to the club!!!!!!!!!!!
hi every one, i am new to this club and this is my first post. i am going to buy a RX7 pretty soon. so i thought why not ask ppl who are driving rx7 for a while. i am looking to buy a 89-91 RX7. may be older than these years. but i am only interested in the 2nd generation ones. what things should i look for when i buy one. also which one is the best year model to buy in the 2nd generation. i will also look for turbo II but if not the i will just buy N/A. i am buying this for daily commute and weekend run on the cannyons. car that can hold high rpm and rev happy. since i like grip run so i think RX7 will be a good car for me.
let me know what you guys think about. but i am very excited to joining this club and will be very happy when i`ll buy my own.
thnx.
peace.

i like this guy's attitude.
How much u got to spend on it?
S5 (89-91) is better in just about every aspect...
but I prefer 86-88's for some odd reason.
The problem with these cars is the addiction that arises from working on them.
I learned how to work on cars on rotary's, and i don't really know how piston engines work too good...

thnx guys for ur reply. for maintenance, i will spend whatever is necessary to keep it running. i drive a nissan stanza and toyota corolla SR5. i am selling both of these cars to get an RX7. corolla is too old for me and stanza looks like a family car. i want to buy 89-91 rx7 becuz they have a higher red line and more HP. but if find a nice 86-88 rx7 then i will buy that. i always wanted to buy an rx7. so thats y i am buying it.
i was wondering that ppl say that they cost more for maintenance and there engines are not reliable. is it true or its just BS. also some one was mentioning that rx7 also came carburators. is it true? i believe that all of the FC are fuel injected. plz let me know. also should i buy N/A or turbo. which one would be a better one when considering maintenance, fuel, reliability.
thnx for ur reply.

Jesus is the Messiah
The FB was carbed (Exept the GSL-SE). FC is fuel injected.
N/A or turbo depends on your goals.
(N/A more reliable/economical, turbo faster)
That information you got about Maintenance being more expensive is BS. The engines are not that unreliable if you take care of them correctly.

The maintenance stuff is BS! Rexes are just like any other car if they have been taken care of maintenance should be a non issues. If you get a car that has been beat on look to spend money. I have a '90 GXL with 170k miles on her. Perfect compression on both rotors. Bought her about a year ago. Ran great from day one. Did a complete tune up (see sticky at top of forum) runs even better now. The only problems I had were a coolant hose spliting (about $20 to fix), The plastic end tank on the radiator cracking ($140 to fix) and the exhaust was rotted ($ depends on what you want to get to replace it). All these thing can be expected for any 15 year old car though.
FCs are awesome to drive. They are so much fun. If you can find a nice quality turbo buy it, but make sure its been taken care of. Turbos need a lot more love than na's. An s5 (89-91) turbo will be almost impossible to find in decent condition though. NA's are still fun though. Plus you can always drop a turbo motor in later.

putting it down daily
Yep- my 88 vert has about 145k on the clock and still runs like a champ- just
make sure you keep an eye on the dipstick, change oil regularly, and if it even THINKS
about overheating, pull your *** over STAT. That, and get the FD alternator ( our stock electricals are kinda glitchy) and you should remain trouble free.

These cars are about as expensive as keeping any 15 year old sports car on the road, but people who are not used to the upkeep of an older sports car tend to be scared fast.
Not to mention that rebuilding an engine for an rx7 costs more then you standard US v8.

I would go with a 1989-1991 FC or the S5, 1986-1988 are S4. It looks strait, but kind of ugly interior and 2000 kind of over priced. S5 look cleaner and have better interior colors.
S5 are 160hp and S4 are 140hp (I think)

i would say NO on that car .. the interior is gutted, and theres a few things about it that make me say no for sure ... first off is the missing fan shroud under the hood ... unless you go E-fan you need that shroud to aid in cooling ... i would not get this car .. just hold out a bit longer .. trust me ...
i paid 1200 for my 88 Turbo and the body and interior are in much better condition than that .. the motor wasnt as good as it could have been but ive recently had that taken care of ...
this is just my opinion, but i would say hell no to tht car for that price (actually anything over 750 or so would be too much for me to pay for that gutted car)

welcome.
I have a 91na and i drove it for a year and a half and never had a problem. i use to put about 300-400 miles a week on her. They are great cars. If you have the time and the patience i say find a blown one and rebuild her and make her how you want her.
There are some nice fc's around you just have to find them
