new to the board just wanted to say hi and i have a few ques

well, as the title says im new here .... i just got a 89 t2, i put on the hks fcd and autometer boost gauge yesterday, the motor has about 2000 miles on it and hasnt been drove much at all the exhaust has since then rotted out and with me driving it i am making holes all over my exhaust and i think i started to get boost creap..(my gauge reads 10 psi when im in 3rd gear and on) not sure if its really boosting that much or if its the gauge.. its a good thing i got the fcd. tomorrow im getting exhaust put on it for now im gonna keep the stock downpipe and precat... im going to go with 3inch all the way.. i was wondering if i would be able to run this setup with out a afc or any ecu mods other then my fcd... im afraid that i will lean out. and do you think that 3inch is too big for what i have.. thanks ......

sorry for the noobie post

you wont need any ecu mods but get a walboro fuel pump first so you dont detonate

Welcome to the board, fuel should be your first concern, as stated above...

Head on over to the midwest forum. Hook up with some local T2 owners in MI and I'm sure they'll be more than glad to share some wisdom. Especially Piranha or MarksMazda.

Fuel mods!!! There's no need to blow a brand-new engine.

Hey Josh, seems like your car is really nice!! I wish mine looked that good (seriously). Anyways, I'm Mike, I didn't bring my TII with me, if you can't put the name to the face. I was drinking beer and trying to help fix that 10th AE.

Right now, like Zach said, do fuel mods. I've blown an engine at 7 psi, and it sucks. Because of fuel mods not being done, and I had a new fuel filter and fuel pump, rewired! My injectors were dirty. If you have the cash, you should start with a good base, like a Microtech or Haltech. Both Mark and I are running Microtechs, they rock.

FCD + 3" exhaust = bad combination.

The FCD fools the ECU, so it thinks it is seeing less boost then it actually is. This means at as the boost increases, the fuel decreases after 8.6 PSI. BAD.

At the very least, get a good fuel pump and keep the stock intake. The '86-'88 turbos have a small wastegate, which means that creep can easily happen if you don't pay attention to things. The stock intake forms a pretty good restriction to prevent that.

I would also recommend getting an air/fuel guage. While it is not accurate enough to tune by, at leat it can give you a good indication that you're getting into the danger zone.
