Exclamation New Antifreeze product claims possible 28 degree drop in temp!!

I was just at the parts store today and i saw this product that you add to your coolant and it is supposed to result in cooler temperatures. Up to 28 degrees in some cases! I think that amazing. Has anybody ever heard of stuff like this and think it's safe to use on a rotary? I didn't catch the name and the guy didn't know much about it said it was brand new to the store and that he hadn't gotten any litterature on is so he couldn't tell me much. Let me hear what you think.

If your engine is already running at the correct temp (and if nothing's broken, it will be), why would you want it to run 28º cooler?

First don't rotaries like to spit up evans for a while?

And i am saying that it could run hot. Like stop it from over heating. I just saw it today and it interested me that all.

I use It In my 88 GXL. With no problems. With all new cooling sensors and a Black Magic #150 I take the Cooling System very SERIOUSLY. I have found It to work very good not only keep It cool but to act as a great anti-rust Inhibiter. I highly recommend It to anyone whom has a motor that generates tremondous heat. Rotary, of course. (Lookk at me. I sound like a spokesperson for Redline Water Wetter).

I think the product should work decent and would cause no problems. But like always, unless you really want it, don't get it!

Use redline water wetter. It works. Don't use any other brands. I think that the key words to look at are"UP TO 28 degrees". Its never gonna happen. If it does, your cooling system is broken. In the cars that I have used redline in, the temp gauge has been more consistent. The gauge doesn't move up and down in traffic. Plus, I eliminated the pinging in my Sentra(timing advanced) without having to resort to superunleaded anymore.

Evans is too expensive~$25gallon. There is no benefit. I could put a down payment on a big aluminum radiator for the RX and use cheapo Prestone and have a better system.
Where is the side by side comparion of evans vs. antifreeze+water+redline? All the reputable evans reviews that I have seen also had new water pumps/thermostats/fans/radiators........ Plus evans sells all those parts. If there NPG+ is so great, why would we have to upgrade everything else?

Hey banzaitoyota-- how long have you been using evans npg? Is evans paying you a commission?
Over the years, I have clocked over a million miles in a dozen vehicles(various makes) with prestone/redline/distilledwater and I never had engine temperature/cooling system problem or failure.

I've been using evans for over 2 years now, with no problems on a 3rd gen with a stock radiator. For the people who like micky mouse things Evans is not for you. CJ

Redline Water Wetter supporter here.

Just make sure all the air is bled from your system. If it isn't it can create cavitation in the water pump and not push as much fluid.

No Evans does not pay me a commision, I have used it in my beater pick-up with no mods to the coolant system. No problems. I am installing it based on the recommendation of my Engine builder. You need to look past the initial cost of the Evans. Yes it appears to be high. But lets examine the cost of E.G. Coolant: Based on RE 13 B (Non Turbo)
Capacity 7.7 Qts (Souce FSM Page 30-5)
Cost 5.29/gal x 1 gallons
water Wetter 7.99 12 oz. (For best protection for aluminum, replenish or replace every 15,000 miles. ){ Redline Webpage Technical Data}
Distilled Water. 1 Gallon 1.00
Yearly flush Chemicals $5.00
Total for ethylene Glycol = 19.28/year

Assume you enjoy your RX7 15,000 miles a year in 5 years of driving you spend :
96.40 + time for 5 flushes
And this estimate does not assume any costs for thermostats and hoses etc.

Evans:
2 Gallons At 25/gallon = 50.00
service life 500,000 miles.
total cost 50.00+ better performance of the coolant

I am going with Evans based on a lower life cycle cost.

Not to mention, do you get all the beniefiets of having a 0 psi coolant system with more saftey? Normal coolant with redline, can't begin to touch evans. No more corrosion, more heat pulled from the engine, a boiling point of like 370 degrees....the list goes on and on.

Also, on rotary vehicles, you can use the stock water pump/radiator just fine. And, if you know someone who sells it....you can probably get it for around $20. (Thanks Rob ) CJ

So you guys that use Evans:

Did your average water temp reading go up like the even's FAQ page suggests may happen, or did you actually run cooler?

Even's FAQ page is a little scarry when they start talking about - and this is a direct quote from their page -

"In fact, with NPG in many cases the activation of the coolant warning light represents a false warning as NPG works very well at 330°F. Gauges may show the needle at 330°F, a temperature probably located in the red, but again, no concern is warranted with NPG coolant."

I don't care if the stuff eminates "hot spots" if I'm not getting cooler running temps over all. Especially at those prices.
