New 6-port actuator idea.
has anyone tried actuating the ports with magnetic induction? Once i start my 6-port turbo project, and I get the manifolds off, I am going to look into doing a magnet.
Haven't done any of the math, or anything yet, but, I figure there isn't too much force required to pull them open.

Now, if you are talking about induction using a solenoid, then that sounds like it would work quite well.
The effects of running with the aux ports wide open are the same in a turbo car and an NA car. While the car is under boost it won't matter, but the lack of low end is noticeable anytime you are out of boost at light throttles. With the ports working, low end torque is improved, the car pulls better vacuum, gets better mileage and the turbo is more responsive.

Yea Aaron, I was thinking of a solenoid.
I think....
An empty tube... and then an iron type rod with a hole in the end to slip over the actuator arm. Then, having the rod inside the empty tube, empty tube has coil wire wrapped around it, turn it on. It should pull the rod inside right? From playing with just rods / tube w/ coil, the rod will pull itself inside, but haven't measured how much force it exerts.
I'll work on a few other ideas too. haha... good times.

Just buy an industrial solenoid. They come in various strengths and are designed to handle the environment. It will probably cost you more in wire to wind your own.
