New???????????????????????
Ok I just got a 86 or 87 (limited edition) FC. Its pretty fucked up but I was planing on rebuilding and making it nice for autoX. I put the key in just for ***** (It doesnt run) and I'm checking the electronics.
not working:
windshield wipers
light
light motors
so im like ok and I turn the key. All i hear is a loud whiney sound (comming from the starter i presume) so what do I check first oh **** theres no distributer
is there any where there might be a bad connection. Its just not getting from the starter to the motor, and all those other things dont work so I'M thinking a short? blown fuses? Also in the engine bay there are about 4 or 5 plugs that have no connections. Also What is that black plexiglass(or plastic)square on the middle console witht the switch?
thank you and sorry if these are dumb questions

well you should take the starter off and bring it to autozone or the like to get tested if it tests good then move on to something else. you may want to do the normal tunning stuff to it like new plugs etc. You may be on to something by saying bad fuse(s) try reading all of them in the engine bay and also the one by the drivers side kick panel. If all fuses are good then its time to move on to the switches for the headlights and winshield wipers. You may want to see if the winshield wiper motor is even connected. Good luck

thanks another thing is the clutch pedal spring loaded?(does it spring back after you push it in) I was told that some cars you have to pull the clutch pedal out with your toe (which I thought was pretty stupid) Mine doesn't and i was just thinking a bad spring.

1.3L is not that small
if your clutch is sticking to the floor and not coming back up then you could very well have a problem with the hydrolics on the car... check the clutch resivoir and see if it is full, if its empty or low then you need to replace the slave and the master cylinder..... as for the car not starting it could be many things but check the starter and the basics... got fuel? got spark?

ok i changed the spark plugs the spark plugs at the front of the motor (closer to the headlights) were all rusty on the top. Im getting no spark from these plugs. The rear however is perfect. I think maybe a broken water seal? any ideas?

i took off the 6 pin plug (black and yellow) under my dash and started it and then put it back on and now it will run for like 4-5 seconds with some loud popping noises. Im thinkin either my timing is off or could it be the gas is old? My friend said if the cat was clogged it wouldnt start could that be the case. I have yet to check my fuel system. what could be the problem?

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
If the gas was older than 6 months it is possible to be bad, drain the tank and add in new gas.
And a rotary will start will a clogged cat, it just will not run well (no power)and the exhaust manifold tends to get red hot

ok.....if this is your first 7......IMO this would be too big of a project for u to take on......unless u got the car for a really good deal u'll end up thinking RX7s are so poorly made that it doesnt deserve to be on the road....but if your gonna be hard headed....go ahead and try to figure out whats wrong with everything thats broken in the car.....this forum does have some helpful people that'll suggest stuff to you..but if you dont have the basic know-how about cars....a rebuild is wayy out of the question...
and oh yeah...u should check the battery to see if its workin properly......if the car hasnt been started for 2+ years...u might want to try the ATF trick.....dont know what that is?.....search

If the pedal sticks to the floor, its most likely because of leaking/unbled clutch hydralics.
Again: no spring.

If I gave up on this what else would I do? drive a civic? I dont think so. I really love the rx-7 and if all my questions are about "basic knowhow" then they should be easy to answer
However, in the future learning to use the search button would be great.
