Neeed help badly!

Straight to the point:
I got pulled over going 35 above the speed limit.
I blamed it on my speedometer.
HOW CAN I DISCONNECT IT OR THROW IT OFF BY 10MPH?

On your transmission, you should see a large black cable on the driver-side that is you speedometer cable. If you unscrew that, your spedo shouldn't work anymore but I never tryed it.

If you didn't say that when he pulled you over, you're in trouble already because you admitted the speeding when you signed the ticket. You can go to court and try to claim something but the judge will just ask why you didn't tell the officer or get it fixed.

35 over.. come on now...

Admit your mistake, pay the fine and suck it up like a man. Don't try to lie an cheat your way around it like a 3 year old would.

Just about any shop you go to will be able to calibrate the speedo/provide written verification that it was uncalibrated.

Signing the ticket means you were the other party involved. It is not an admission of guilt. The officer is supposed to tell you that before you sign it. Plus he said he already blamed it on the speedometer.

yeah, my thoughts too. you're going to spend more money getting out of it than just dealing with the consequences of your actions. Maybe you lucked out and got a nice Judge though. Good luck

35 and over will kill your insurance

have a shop install a new cable, show judge receipt for new cable and labor to install cable.
At least if by some chance he orders the car to undergo some kind of inspection there really is a new cable on the car.

Fray the old one up a little bit

I would not just get some bullshit paper that says the cable was broken.

I dont think thats going to get you off the hook, most people would notice if there going that much over the limit, even without looking at the speedo...
I would think 35 means license suspension, at least where i am.

I was caught for speeding and thought my speedometer was out, that car had no cruise control, an 83 944 Porsche so I checked it with my Garmin 76 GPS before whining to the judge and the speedo was accurate, so I sucked it up and paid the fine. However I got stopped for speeding in my previous 85 GSL-SE and could prove my speedo was out by pointing out the the cop the next day that I had the incorrect size tires on the rear axle, they were smaller than the tire size on the doorplate, they tore up the ticket as the speedo was giving a false reading. FWIW.

maybe the judge is willing to drop it down to 25 over so that he does not lose his license?

he could have been going 60 in a 25 but yeah you would notice going THAT much faster then the limit

Hah, there's no way you DIDN'T notice you were doing 35 over.

Especially if there are other cars hanging around doing the speed limit.

Plus there's almost no leniency for people like us with our cars.

Exactly. If someone was pulled over and you didn't write the ticket, what does that make you? The speeder. I didn't mean to imply that it was a confession but if you didn't take the time to prove to the officer your speedometer was broken, why would a judge care?

35 over so let's say 80 in a 45... Who wouldn't know they were going over the limit?

Let's not be completely ignorant here.

Funny, i actually got pulled over recently with a broken speedometer. 53 in a 40. Lets just say i knew i was speeding, even if it was only 13 over. I doubt you're gonna be able to blame this one on a broken speedo.

Going 35 over? Man up. We all speed at some point in time but be willing to accept the consequences if you do...you are breaking the law. I hope you go to prison.

My trans am didn't have a speedo at all (modified rear end ratio and transmission) and I never got pulled over for speeding. I knew even if I was going 5 over. It's not that hard to learn to read the tac, and some judges may possibly argue this.

You do go a constant speed at a certain rpm in a certain gear and if you've gone with traffic the same route for a year you learn what that speed is. I used to keep a list on my dash of what rpm and gears yielded what speeds lol.

Imo if your license is going to be revoked, figure a way around it, if its just a 'pay the ticket' just deal with it.

PS.

I take that back, I did get pulled over for doing 40 in a 25 (school zone), but I was not aware it was a school zone, a giant truck blocked the signs, and for the record, I was going the speed limit before the school zone :p
