Unhappy Need some opinions about my starter motor.

I have the usual hot-start problems, but it's not a big deal since I have a fuel-cut switch. The last couple of months I have found that if I don't get it started within the first 5 or 6 cranking attempts, either the battery or starter dies (not sure which). Basically it will crank, then the cranking becomes very slow until it just dies. If I get a boost from someone, the starter seems to crank just fine and I can eventually get it started.
The charging system seems to be ok (I always get about 14.3v). I thought that maybe the battery I had didn't have enough cranking amps (doubtful), so I bought one with 1000 cranking amps. Yesterday I tried to start the car (engine warm), but I was having trouble and after about 6 attempts... the starter slowed down and then died. I only ever crank for about 10 secs then try again, so I don't think I am burning it out. Luckily I had the old battery, so I boosted the car from that, and I got it started after 2 attempts (once again the starter was cranking like normal).

Seeing as how I've used 2 different batteries (and just to let you know, the old battery was only 3 months old), and I have the same symptoms, I would assume that maybe I have a problem with the starter. This being the case, I don't understand why that when I get a boost, the starter starts cranking just fine and I eventually start the car. So if you look at it from that point of view, you would suspect the battery...

Does someone have any ideas... Hailers, Icemark... anyone??

I had that same problem with mine and every time i would crank it til it seamed the battery was dead i would have to push start it, and it would fire right up!
Drove it from Wa. state to Coneut Ohio last october had that problem the whole way there. It seemed it would start when it was cool but if i had been running it for a while i would have the same prob. Got to Ohio, and had a new starter put in it and haven't had a problem with it since! I would change the starter thier not real exspencive.

I've just found out that my new (1 month old) battery is the culprit. I was told it is charging at 17 volts... oh joy...
I put the old battery back on, and i have no problems starting when cold, and after a number of cranking attempts (when hot), it eventually started up. No sign of the Starter motor slowing down.
I just don't know anymore... cars... blehhhhhh!
