GTUs is emasculated!!

Yo,

I took off my cone filter, replaced it with the stock air box, and put my catalytic converters on...

It's time for smog!!

Should I leave my 6 ports wired open or leave them closed for the smog test? I will be on the dyno rollers.

How I detest the 2 year scourge of smog certification.

Unless they do full throttle tests, I'd unwire them for now.

Yo,

Cool, that's what I did.

It's weird to have water vapor coming out of my tailpipes...instead of the stinky gas rich fumes..

Damn! I'm running premix. Think that'll screw up the test?

I better fill up and drive that ho around!

I get out of it every year...the guy who checks my car never actually checks emissions, he just makes sure I don't have an exhaust leak (meaning I might be screwed this year )

RarestRX, you scared me!! I thought you're car was in an accident or something by your thread subject!! I don't think the ports wired open will effect emissions adversly - I'd actually assume the other way around...

Hey Rarest there is a guy in Sunnyvale named Ivan and not only is he a rotary mechanic but he can smog test cars. might want to check him out. I always here things about this guy but I don't have any contact info for him.
btw: change your oil before you get tested. that is one of the hints that we always gave customers at a smog station I worked at once.

later on

so do you live down by FREY RACING?

Yo,

I'm living up in Sacramento, so I need to do the roller test...so I can't smog down in the Bay Area.

Don't worry, I'll get those cats white hot before they test it.

I'm a little worried about the premix...

All is good my friend the sooner you get this smog done the sooner we can slap on the true duals Fill it with 91 and get those cats super white hot. You will pass with flying colors.

Yo,

So the higher octane burns hotter? I thought it burns slower...

I am definitely going to fill the tank and try to dilute the premix. That premix is gonna hose me for hydrocarbons.

I might even spend the money and get a pre-test done, it will be cheap insurance against the dreaded "Gross Polluter" label.

Last time I had it done it passed with flying colors, but that was with a "cool" shop that would stop the test if I was failling horribly. This place just wants my money.

the premix really shouldn't be a problem. an rx7 burns oil any way. and on all the write ups about premix it says that it burns cleaner than oil. when i bought my 7 i had to do smog testing and it passed with flying colors despite it's desperate need for a tune up. that was with the auxilary ports closed because they don't work.

Put a little drygas in your tank, if you can get such a thing out there, and DONT run super unleaded, it will NOT help. You should be fine with premix, don't dilute. We have a super strict emissions test here, quit your bitchin', it is not just CA anymore. I mean, your state ruined it for ALL of us, but hey, you had nothing to do with that, I know that........

Yo,

I'll update you guys tomorrow...I will probably spend the extra money for the pretest just as a CYA.

Smog on Saturday...True Duals by Tuesday! I love being a gearhead. *grin*

My cats should outlast the car since they only have a dozen or so hours on them since I've gotten the car 4 years ago...*snicker*

I'll try and get my car dyno'ed ASAP after I put the duals on. We'll see if they're worth all the money.

Yo,

UPDATE: Car has just passed smog. It is now being cooled in my garage...where Rotary Racer (aka Dana) is prepping the car for...

The full Mazdatrix True Dual exhaust swap!

Yep, less than an hour of being smogged...the cats are going to be off and back into storage!

Bwahaha!
