PA need some help with T2 idle

ok, so i am looking at buying an 87 T2 from a junk yard, the only description I could get from a friend of the owner is that apparently the idle would jump from 1k-4k and then back to 1k. any ideas on what could be causing this would be appreciated, I am thinking it is either a vacuum leak or something with the BAC valve.

IDK, the guy I have been talking too is supposed to get me the number of the owner, so if he ever gets me the number I will find out, but for now, if it is only on warm up what are you thinking it could be?

When the coolant is above a certain threshold (about 60 degrees) on a cold start the engine will normally rev up to about 3000 rpm for 17 seconds (which is a function of the Air Bypass valve) then quickly drop to about 1500 rpm and then very slowly drop to 750 rpm (which is a function of the Thermowax-Fast Idle Cam mechanism) if the car behaves as it was engineered to do. If the car does this it is proper and not a red flag. On the other hand, if it goes to 4000 rpm and then drops to 1000 and then back to 4000 rpm in a cyclical up down fashion then that is an example of an improperly running engine.

^^^^^

From the description I got it sounds like it revs in a cyclical pattern. To be honest I plan on rebuilding it for racing so I wont need any emissions stuff, as long as it doesn't sound like it is a mechanical problem I will be happy. worst case scenario would be that I could use some of the internals on my S5 NA motor.

Shitty news, just drove an hour each way to try and pull this motor from the junk yard only to find once I get there and am looking around the yard for a half hour to find the car, that they crushed it 2 weeks ago, yet when I called them Friday and Saturday to ask them some questions about the car they told me it was there. when I was leaving and went to confront the guy at the cashiers desk about the whole situation and explained that I drove 1 1/2 hours and was told the car was here. he tells me that they don't keep an inventory of what cars they have and that nobody told me the car was here. WHAT??? how do you NOT keep an inventory of what cars are there? Its a F-ing junk yard. I mean how would they know which cars to crush and which not to. The worst part of it is that I dragged two friends along to help me pull this thing and only ended up wasting 9 hours total of all of our lives. Any of you maryland guys dont go to Crazy Ray's in edgewood. they are a bunch of lying bitches

sorry for the rant everybody just needed to vent a little frustration LOL
