Question need some help quick... gauges dont work.

ok some background: 89 vert, AT to MT conversion, 3.90 to 4.10 lsd, stage 1 clutch, 11lb flywheel thats about all you need to know right now.

ok i had the conversion done less then a month ago and i chose to put in a used tranny and not rebuild it. well i got the car back from the shop and drove it for 2 weeks and my torque ripped my first gear out. so i drove starting with second for about 3 weeks getting money and finding a new transmission. well i got another transmission used not rebuilt again. just want to get it in so i can save my clutch and flywheel.

now the problem: i just did the swap myself yesterday and today. the tranny works perfectly except the reverse gets stuck when you try and pull it out. but it works fine. all the gauges dont work. speedo, tach, fuel, temp, volts, oil pressure all dont work. and they worked before i did the swap the last time myself. they place i had do the conversion had to rewire my reverse lights so they would work. im guessing it has something to do with that. cuz before the R would light up on my auto gauges and now it doesnt. also the hold used to blink all the time. now it blinks only with the parking or headlights are on.

sorry so long.... thanks for the help in advance and i really hope i can get this fixed and its not in my transmission.

No, instead, you expect an answer within 30 minutes of posting.

Maybe after a day or two with no one answering then you can say such a comment.

Sorta like the kid in the back seat the keeps asking, "are we there yet???" Keep bumping and whining and no one will like you.

But to answer the question dispite your bump and whining, you probably shorted out the reverse light wires. The reverse lights get their power from the Meter fuse.

You botch up the reverse light wires, and it blows the meter fuse. Blown meter fuse means the gauges don't work.

And for the reverse indicator and hold indicator to work, you need a functioning automatic transmission

actually sorry icemark on the comment i was referring to the other threads that i usually dont get much reponse to not this one. and usually you are the only one that knows the answer to my quesions and i didnt think you would be on that soon so i wanted to keep it at the top before i went to bed. also my car is taken apart right now and i wanted to get it fixed before i give up tonight. thanks for your help.

the reverse lights are wired somehow into the plug thats in the shifter surround so it used to light up the R and the hold always blinked. till this stopped working.

Brian

ps. sorry for the bump i know its not allowed.

ok i checked the fuse and guess what????? Icemark you were right again..... kinda. lol

the fuse is blown, but i switched the wires for the reverse and put another fuse in and it blew. so i switched them back thinking maybe they were the right way and the fuse blew from when i was first messing with the wires, but it blew that way also. so i think i must have a short in the wiring somewhere. i will check the connectors tomorrow and if anyone has any good ideas let me know i will check back before i try again tomorrow. thanks again Icemark for leading me in the right direction.

Yep, look at those reverse wires... Some how you got them mixed up. May be at the shifter, as I seem to recall there is normally a switch there on auto trannys (but I don't know for sure... I haven't seen a auto tranny FC in 10 years).

i didnt wire them originally. the shop that did my conversion did. and they worked just fine when i got it back from them. the actual sensor i took from the transmission they put in and put it in the new one i put in. i need to know which wires do what on that sensor so i can track the problem down. i dont really want to just start unplugging and plugging things in without knowing what they are. the sensor has 2 green wires and 2 red. one red and one green come from the inside of the sensor and the others come from the outside. what are the green wires for? they go to some plugs and the red are what were hooked up to the wires that go to the firewall and then one to the shifter.

i have checked the FSM and i cant seem to find out more about them. it says that its the Back up light and 5th switch service, section F1 or T. not sure what f1 or t is. any ideas on where i can find this info?
