Need some help getting my car to run right
I have had my car for a while now and there always seems to be something going wrong but I can usually fix it, now I'm not sure whats wrong. Its a 88 convertible.
I have been getting really bad gas mileage (less than 10mpg) and the car has no power when I give it gas. Also the idle is always at 1800 rpms, when I first start it and then after I have been driving it around for awhile. This all started happening at the same time. It kinda of happened around the same time as my stock temperature gauge was going out, so the first thing I thought is that the sensor is bad and sending wrong signals to the computer. When I looked into this I found out there were three sensor, all do something different. I found that the one next to the water pump was broken so I replaced. This is when things got weird.
Right after I replaced it and started the car the idle went crazy, it just kept jumping up and down from around 1800 RPM's to 300. So I immediately un-hooked the new temp sensor and the car went back to normal. This is where I think I screwed something up, I unplugged the sensor and then decided to plug the sensor back in while the car was running. After I plugged the senor back in nothing happened, so I assumed something reset it self, so I go to take the car for a drive. I immediately noticed that the power steering is not working and none of the interior dash and logicon lights are working and the car seems to be running the same as it was before I changed out the sensor. I turn off the car and un-hook the battery for a while. When I hook it back up and turn the car on the power steering and lights work again but the car still runs like before.
I think there is something telling the car it is constantly in warm up mode. I looked at the temp sensor on the bottom of the radiator and it looks fine. Anybody have any idea, any help would be useful. Thanks

First you will eventually need to put a switch on the fuel pump, i had issues with hot starts (like filling up at a gas station) this will save you headaches. Check to your air flow monitor the thing that the air filter attaches to, it it is not the way it should it will cause your issue. I had mine rotated 90 degrees to fit my air filter and finally figured it out, good luck
If the OP hasn't figured out his problem in 12 years, he doesn't deserve a running car and is unlikely to ever have one.
But that wasn't really the point here, was it?
Let me assure you that our classifieds aren't so great that blatant post count inflation is worth it.
