lately i have noticed that my oil pressure has been stedily getting worse as days pass. is this something i should worry about? at idle is less than 30 (about 25ish) and that is relitive when i am cruizing and WOT. I do on ocasion redline it, but i really do baby my car the best i can. i do have to add like 1/4 quart about once every other week, however i have ss braided OMP lines and i think they flow more.

is there any kind of preventive maintence i can do? (besides rebuild...that comes next summer)

note i have an 87 TII

Ah common man, you are bumping this up after 15 minutes... I should just delete the thread on principle of NO BUMPS This means no "anyones"... "too the Tops" or any other crapola like that... and just how old are you that you are so impatient that you must pull that within 15 mintes of your post??? Damm babies

Anyway...

Oil useage and pressure will vary on brand of oil, quality of oil, and how much your foot is down on the gas pedal.

In addition you didn't say anything about miles driven weekly or anything like that, so it would be impossible to say even if you are using a lot of oil.

And do you have a oil pressure gauge other than the stock one that you can confirm the real oil pressure??? A 15 year old oil sender and gauge that were only half way decent when new probably is not giving you the most accurate readings.

And is your E-shaft thermovalve still in place or has it been replaced with a pellet or spaced (as often recommeneded for a reliability fix)?

ahhh geez, sorry. now i kinda feel like crying in a corner.

but i use 20w 50 castrol. and i sparcely go WOT. like on a 4 mile drive to work go about half throttle up hills and just cruz in 5th with barely any throttle. no unfortunately, i dont have an AM gauge

and i honestly dont know if the thermovavle or whatever has been replaced. to the most of knowlege it hasnt been taken out. i have all recepts of the previous own and it said nothing about it

and in my defence....well i suck

im still learning all the little things (like editing) on the forum

well 25psi at idle on the stock gauge I wouldn't really worry about. As long as you are getting up near 60 psi while running at 2K RPM and up you should be fine.

But if you consistently see 10-15 psi down, across the whole RPM range (like only 45 psi at 3k RPM) then I would expect the E-shaft thermovalve to have failed (if you don't know if you have one, chances are it is still stock), and you would want to replace it with a pellet from atkins or FC3S.org

Like the above posts suggests, put a aftermarket gauge on the engine even if only temp. YOu can buy a mechanical one at the store for twenty or so bucks. The factory gauge is not reliable. It might have been ok when new, not now though. I doubt you have a REAL problem. One of those SUNPRO's will work just fine and dandy. Cheap. And they have a adapter with the gauge that will screw into your block/housing.

Just a temp install. No need to route the darn thing into the car.
