Angry Need SMALL Shifter Bushing INSIDE TRANS!

Long story short, I can throw my second gear around for days and I sorta need that gear to be solid...
Tore down the shifter assembly, shifter cups are okay but the little bushing INSIDE the trans where the shifter ball plugs into is deteriorating.
Mazda says I need the whole assembly, I say I need a $5 bushing.

The shifter cup above the BIG ball is NOT what I need...

That little "white" POS below the spring is what I need fuuhh

Any help would be appreciated,
Dylan

I need the same bushing too !
Plus my spring which is supposed to center the shifter isnt there anymore.

Now that I have my trans on the bench I found the spring broken and about 5 mm of old bushing gum on the ground ...

How do you remove this thing http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=17-46Y0-M510

I cant figure out how to do.

Many thanks

Yes, the upper bushing kit was easy. Got the car few hundreds cheaper because I told the PO the tranny might be ruined. ..

40$ fix for me.

Got the lower thing out, wasnt that easy but finally its done. I am now cleaning & painting the trans.

Looks better than new once done.

Hi Folks,
just rebuilt the shifter in mine.

that bottom bush is about the same as mine in wear.

i replaced the top and bottom bushings (blue and white) and springs that go on the actual shifter and now its perfect.

i thought that this bushing replaced the one in your pic,
http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=17-462A-0398
but i was wrong as it does not fit on the shifter as its too small.

it looks like you have to buy the whole unit,
http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=17-46Y0-M510
but dont ask me how to change it, maybe the gearbox has to come out.

maybe you could buy the unit and remove the nylon bush and replace it in yours.

good luck.

maybe i'm missing something, i have never seen an FC with a bushing inside the shifter cup. all models EXCEPT for the 2nd gens had a bushing inside there..

but if i were to guess in this case that the 1st gen nylon bushing should fit.

you probably have an FB transmission in your car.

I had the same problem. I made one myself

4.5 years later, it still works like new!

It's in the S5's. Never saw one either until my 89 vert.

This thread WILL help you, & it's MUCH cheaper/easier to replace than the whole block from mazda. Plus being delrin, I can imagine it living a much longer service life

so what do we need to replace every bushing and spring in a 94 rx7? From the link below I think we need the "93-95 aluminum" (02-9402-0000), "79-95 upper" (17-481A-M508) and "84-95 lower" (17-4810-M501). Is that right or we don't need all three parts. Also, I don't see a "return to middle" spring for 94 rx7. Anyone knows? Thanks

Un sure on the bushings, sounds like you've got them right though.

On the return to middle spring, it's different on the FD. Rather than a rotary spring which is wound around the shift selector shaft, the FD has 2 linear compression springs, one per side, set at an angle. They push the shift lever to center, & are much less prone to breaking.

Lol good luck with that. That thing was a pain in the *** to change even with the transmission out of the car.

The trans shift control end is held in with a dowel pin. If you dont angle it right you wont be able to punch it out all the way through. I had it at a slightly bad angle and the dowel hit the side of the housing. It got stuck that way so I ended up drilling the POS out. I bought pack of assorted dowel pins at autozone to replace it. Then with the dowel out you gotta angle the rod up at a certain angle (hole the dowel was in pointing i think upwards) and it'll move forward into the transmission allowing you to slide out the shift control out the back. Then do everything in reverse to reinstall..I think I put the center return spring on the shift control end first before placing it on the rod..or left it partially on or something..I cant remember exactly, but I did have some kinda weird issue putting the shift control end and spring onto the rod not lining up or not enough room..i dunno xD.

Yup. I have the MMR bushing in my TII, it works great.

It's $12 :-P and you don't have to take anything apart.
