It'll sell for whatever the seller is willing to accept.
There is no "should" in the equation.
Buying a car of this type and vintage is purely a matter of how bad you want it balanced against how valuable the owner thinks it is.
Since it's unlikely there are multiple good condition verts for sale in your area at the same time, you really can't bargain based on market pressure.
A poll of owners on this forum would no doubt show a range of prices paid, however keep in mind that denizens of this forum (and any enthusiast site for that matter) tend to be the most aggressive and fanatical about the subject so their experience cannot be considered typical.
This isn't a bad thing, just a factor to be considered, IMO.
Personally I'd approach a sale like this thusly...
-It's a 20 year old car, so assume- no matter what you see or the seller says- it's gonna need at least some repair.
Set aside some cash for the inevitable, don't shoot your wad on the sale itself.
-Look at other cars and compare to that...i.e., assume your vert will suck up a couple of thousand to be reliable/fully functional- say that brings the total to 10 grand- what else can you buy with similar style and performance in that price range?
If the equation still makes sense to you then go ahead and contact the seller and begin negotiating.

the car does look clean..but the pictures are taken at dusk. everycar looks good at night. look at the other cars the dealer is selling all clean. dosnt look like they sell salvage/half assed fixed cars. the milage does seem decent...not 5500 worth but hey im in va and you live in cali alot different pricing. test drive is always a big plus and look for rust(ie) trunk/door jams/fender wells, also all body parts same color white..look at in in the sun. compression test would be good too.

yea. prices tend to vary; some people get a slick deal and some don't on these cars. of course that car should not go for 5500 imo, knowing that you can get a nice turbo rx7 for that price. If anything, I was going to keep my eye on the car for awhile so I can get a better deal. I've never gotten less than a decent deal on any of my cars and I'm not one who plan to get anything less than a decent deal. I was hoping for 3500 at the most on that car. I'll keep my eyes out. Thanks for the advice guys!!

$5,500 is a fair asking price for a dealer. You could probablyh get one for about $3,500 from a private seller, but there will not be any warranty, and you will most likely end up spending a couple hundred dollars fixing things that the dealer would have fixed. Also, keep in mind that an engine rebuild is usually needed around 140,000 miles, so expect to spend another $2,200 or so for that.
That is completely unrealistic, and is of no help to the original poster.

I wouldn't pay $5500 for that car; it will likely need $1000 of misc. repair, refurb and tune-up costs. They say 'Just Serviced'. For Pete's Sake, this is a used car dealer. MAYBE they changed the oil, most likely they just steam cleaned the engine bay. You will be making a costly mistake to assume that everything is ready to drive with no additional expenses.
Disclaimer
Unless vehicle has remaining factory warranty , all vehicles are sold "as-is".However,we may give in house warranties on a case by case basis.Extented warranties are available through us at additional costs.
That makes this a pretty expensive car. Pretty. And expensive.
The car looks very nice. If an extra $1000 plus maybe a $2200 rebuild would hurt, then stay away. If this is not an economic barrier for you, then go for it.
Good luck.

I have a 1991 Triple Black convertible which is the most desirable RX-7 convertible with the exception of the 1992 special edition. I was planning to fix every blessed thing and ask $7,000 if I can get the paint perfect if not it can only ask $6,000. This is all going to include a new convertible top, new leather seats, repaired AC. The car has 117,000 miles on it. The car smokes at high rpm from the oil control rings so I am also buying and rebuilding a spare running motor. I am going to be fixing every blessed thing on this car. It won't be perfect or a show car but it should be pretty close. You can check blue book and see how these cars "can" run price wise.
If you are not familar with these cars you will be amazed how fast things on them can start breaking. There are also dozens of things that you won't even know are broken unless you are knowledgable of their function.
If you are knowledgable of these cars and can check to make sure everything is in good condition/works and it is really in as good of condition as you say, then I say you should buy it. Just understand that you will be spending more as you use the car. You will see on this forum that a lot of people have bought there convertibles for $1000 - $3000 but that is because you can get a good deal on a beat up 7. I paid $1500 for mine and that is what it was. I will probally have another $3000 - $4000 in the car for just parts by the time I am done and my return on labor will be ridiculouly small but I have enjoyed it and learned much.

5,500 is pretty high, but like EvilAviator said... it's a dealer. With that in mind, most dealers know JACK about rotaries, and with any automobile they sell they are just trying to make a buck. don't be swayed by them saying it's in great shape with a full tune up is all I'm saying. It WILL need repairs, maybe not now, or tomorrow, but maybe next week!

Check the top! the little pockets behind the door, make sure they are clean. The front and rear seals above the door tend to leak. Check the bolts holding the seats in for rust! if they are rusty the car proably leaks pretty bad. Check under the carpet in the trunk for rust that area also likes to get water from leaks. Does it have a cover that snaps on over the top (its called a boot) thats a nice little bonus.
Check for smoke on startup, check rearveiw mirror when shifting gears for puffs of smoke. Check the leather on the seats for wear,(duh) and of course all of the usual stuff.
5500 is about right for a dealer you should be able to get it for around 4800 if you are good, or about 6000 if you really, really suck at car buying.

If the car is as clean as the pics appear it is a fair "dealer" price. Nice thing is it is a S5 which is the most powerful na car. I would suggest investing a couple hundered in a thorough inspection regardless of what offer they throw at you and negotiate from there. You can bet the dealer picked the car up at an auction or from a bigger dealer who took it in on trade and only have no more than $3000 into it, so there is room to move. Can't stress enough, get a rx7 shop to inspect it first!!!!
