Need Reccomendations For Steering Wheel

Function, not looks. I cannot heel-toe with this stock wheel, seeing as mine does not have tilt. Anyone have a reccomendation? If I am gonna drift, I need to be able to heel toe!!!

Yo,

I got this one:

http://www.sparcousa.com/pswheel_competition.asp?id=139

It's 330mm. I thought it was 350mm, but it's 330mm. 330mm is SMALL. Not shifterkart small, but it's small.

Basically, 4 out of the 6 gauges are blocked by the wheel. But, it is suede, and Tommi Makinen uses it. If it's good enough for Tommi, it's good enough for me!! *grin*

I did notice ingress/egress is easier into the car, and heel-toe would be easier if I used the classic heal toe.

The suede is cool, makes the interior look hella agressive. Like a race car.

Anyways, that was rambling and long. Hope that helped!

*snicker*

Yo,

I know, everyone does. *grin*

Silkworm has the 350mm suede MOMO Monte Carlo, ask him how many gauges it blocks. I can only see my voltmeter and engine temp gauge with this one.

It did slow the steering down, instead of the somewhat overboosted twitchy feel, it's calmed down alot. I can be a little bit more precise in the twisties.

Word.

I got a huge question first.. Why is your steering wheel effecting your ability to H/T? Are you so wedged in the car that you can't really move your legs the right way?

I'm still tying Rarest to the back of the car as a bumper for my first race, love or not

The 350 Momo works BEAUTIFULLY.. and doesn't block any guages for me.. Feels great too.

I am 6'1, and I work out a little () so my legs just won't fit to heel toe effectivly. I have REALLY bad knees, so I have to do it kinda weird.

When you removed the PS, did you swap racks too? Its going to be a BITCH to turn with a 350mm wheel, and no PS pump with a PS rack in the car.

I'm holding off on autocrossing my car cause its too hard to turn the wheel fast with no PS pump.

I can heel-toe with my wheel tilted all the way down, and I'm 6'3''. Good thing I am small

Hmmmm. Good call. I have my Victoria British, so I will order a manual rack.

Knees?

I move the side of my foot. Left side of my right foot holds the brake, and I roll my foot to the right to blip the gas. In my case, the knee doesn't move much.

Felix,

If you're asking me, not sure; yes, I swapped to a manual rack.

Let me know how much it costs. I think the one I saw in the boneyard got crushed already. My parts car is a PS car too

Edit: Silk, I was telling rico it would suck with that small of a wheel.

Yo,

Silkworm, when is your first race? I told you I'd pit crew for you. Let the forum know, you know we'll all roll together and be generally rowdy.

Oh, and I'll bring some Wacky Noodles(tm) for your rollcage. Not to mention some Advil....

I was also thinking of a Mazdaspeed D type wheel. Any suggestions?

Links? Pics? Never seen them.

First race depends... I'm heading out on the 26th to T-hill to shake it down on a test day.. But the first race depends on me 1. convincing the licensing guy that I'm smart enough to not do something stupid in my first race, and have him give me a novice permit (Hell, the track CEO at T-hill has me instruct! A few other SCCA people have told me to just go and talk to the licensing guy).. and 2. going thru NASA HPDE and racing NASA as soon as I get my license.

Which ever one works out first

Rico: I know EXACTLY what you're describing. I'm 6'1" and my knee hits the wheel too. Except I have an aftermarket wheel(not sure what size, but much smaller than stock). Make sure you get a nice big fat spacer for the column to give you that extra clearance. I'm grabbing one myself so I can quit sidestepping every damn turn! >=(

Tony: Since he's getting the wheel for drifting, I would really NOT recommend getting a "D" shaped wheel or touring wheel(whatever they call them). The one I have is from Ichibahn, it's a D style, and it's a bitch to grab around a fast paced turn or in a hurry. Any racer will tell you that good, firm grip on the wheel is crutial. A perfect circle makes it much easier to hand-over-hand or slide grip the wheel during a turn. My $.02!
