Need a know-it-all
Can somebody tell me what the difference between a wastegate and a blowoff valve is? i thought they were similar but someobdy said they were completely different
and maybe tell what each of them do.
and maybe tell what each of them do.

I am no turbo guy but I beleive a Blow off valve is to releive the pressure build up in the intake track and the waste gate is in the exhaust to releive eccess exhaust to control boost creep. I am sorry if this is all wrong but I am tring to help from what I know.

A blow off valve is what most people mistakenly call a compressor bypass valve. A CBV vents extra air when you close the throttle under boost to prevent compressor surge.
What "blow off valve" actually refers to is a boost control device more commonly known as a pop-off valve. This is a simple valve which opens when a preset boost level is reached. It's a last-resort engine-saving method, and is hell on the turbo.
A wastegate is a valve which routes exhaust gasses around the turbine in order to control its speed (and thus, the manifold pressure).
