Old school guru question on drivetrains

Ok - so I'll admit, I'm not the biggest old school mazda know-it-all and have hit a small wall with the build of a 1976 RX3.

The car has a '74 REPU transmission and starter in it. We are putting a 12A from an 85 RX7 in it. Problem is I don't know which flywheel and clutch to use?

I know it seems like a simple problem, but I'm not keen on the tooth count of the old school starter and if it would even work on the newer '85 flywheel?

Clutch size depends on your flywheel. 215mm for pre83 and 225mm for 83-91 N/A 13-B and 12-A. All N/A side mount starter will work afair

That's what I was thinking based on what I was reading on racing beat's website, but I wasn't positive with the mixed trans and engine from two completely different years.

Makes life easy knowing its simple and the starter we have will work I'm the type that would rather ask before sourcing parts (we don't have the flywheel at all) and getting the wrong stuff.

Thanks!

With an 83-85 motor, you can also use the lighter 81-82 215mm 21lbs flywheel

Repu trans...

Yes the 1974 and on (until 1985 ?) trans and bellhousings all interchange with similar years of 12A's and 13B,s ; also I was told the REPU trans was somewhat stronger than the other 4 speeds (ie synchros and mainshaft bearings).
