Need Honest Opinion

First off I want to say. I am not new to working on cars but I am new to rotarys.

Got a 87 tII with a seized motor. Bought it in this condition and has been sitting a while (not positive but probably a couple of years). WD40 and a 1/2 inch ratchet wont turn it with all my weight. Pulled spark plugs and they were covered in rust .... chunky rust. I have been removing accessories and stuff from engine in preperation of tear down.

Now the questions I have are. Am I wasting my time since the inside of the motor is rusted. Secondly can someone point towards a resource explaining how the induction system works. Lastly point me to a good resource for making power out of rotary engines....looking for around 400 streetable if even possible.

I would just go for a new (or rebuilt) engine. I dont even know if it would be rebuildable with that much rust.

Alot of times the rust cleans right up. To be honest you probably will not have meany usable parts in the motor.

Alright, where would be the best place to acquire a rebuildable motor. Also if anyone could answer the other 2 questions. It would be much appreciated.

water in the engine for 1 month, 2 or even 3 months can be workable. water sitting in the engine for 2 years you probably will only be able to salvage about half of the engine unless water has made its way into the crankcase in which case the only reusable parts may be the rotor housings.

it's always worth tearing a motor down to find out IMO though.

Got another quick question. on the top of the rotor housings. It has 13b... should they read 13bt or were all housings say 13b?

p.s. still hoping someone can answer the other 2 questions from my first post.....I do appreciate the responses so far though

YOur motor is a 13bt, but the housings will read 13b. The t is just a acronynm for TURBO. If i wher you i would fo for a complete rebuild and salvage what you can from the existing motor like the pumps intake etc.

I dont live in PHX anymore but i do know that there are alot of good mechanics there and you should be able to find one soon.

Whatever you do do not try to use the motor in your car now unless its its proffesionally cleaned and re-surfaced.

Just get a rebuild with a used block, and it wil save you alot heartache

I appreciate everyone's advice. I plan on rebuilding the motor myself. As this is a project car. I have plenty of time to do it slowly, and correctly.

I had one like that. It was the engine I pulled apart to see how these rotaries work. The housings actually cleaned up pretty good but the rotors were pitted bad and the apex and side seals were stuck. The eccentric shaft was perfect. I think it sat about a year before I got it.
