If I remember from the FSM correctly, you need to remove the stubs that go to each half axle. There should be links to the FSM in the faqs, or just go to foxed.ca

Why are you taking it apart? If you can't open it I can't imagine what the hell you're going to do inside it.

Don't touch that big nut.

Pop the stub axles out with a few prybars.
Remove the bolts that hold the case together. They're different sizes, keep track of where they go.
Use a rubber mallet and smack the "wings". It's held together with RTV, so you'll need a bit of force. Did you remember to drain the diff? If you didn't you will now.
Now you'll see the ring gear and lsd.

If you take the lsd out you'll want to find someone local who can set it properly. If you have the tools handy the FSM shows how to do it properly, and it has pictures to show each step.

goddammit, another person setting out to tear up another FC...

Welding the differential will essentially bind your car to track time only. Once it's on a drift track, it's only a matter of minutes until its trashed.

good luck with that welded diff, Ive heard of issues with them. Plus I wouldnt like the rear end fighting me around turns.

just need to get one of these:

Torsen FTW

gotta love a diff that is smart and can transfer up to 80% of the engines torque to the wheel that has the most traction

Well that's a load of crap. Take a functioning vehicle, and because it's ugly, mechanically rape it, take it to a track, beat it to death, then throw it away.

This...

.... was trashed. I mean trashed. I bought it 2 months ago. It now has everything working (even AC) and I drive it daily. There is always hope. FC's are nice cars, and drifting is dumb anyways.

eventually you come to a point where you just have to worry about your own car. the majority of FCs now are thrashed and most eventually get converted to drift bitches and slammed into a wall then thrown away.

let them, your car will eventually gain some rarity because all other 7s will have long since been turned into coke cans.

This is part of what makes me to happy to turn my trashed beast around, bit by bit. To see how far it's come makes all the time and effort well worth it...

I don't get why everyone gets so down on drifting. Is everyone on this forum a 40 year old guy who only opens his 7 up on entrance ramps to freeways? Its a hobby, and unfortunately there is only a hand full of cars that can do well in drifting (rx7 being one of them) so get over it guys.

Thank you adialup78, people dont get what im tryin to say, MY FRAME IS BENT but the internals are fine but the frame will never be/look straight again so why would i put money into making it nice? im looking for a clean shell to build from the ground up at the moment and just have my original fc to have fun in, whats wrong with that?

I agree and apologize for getting a bit off topic. I recognize that those who drift probably put more work into their cars than I do. My gripe is towards those who have no regard for the upkeep of their cars....which isn't a fair descriptor of every drifter.

Good luck man!

I'd actually like to know more about the Torsen unit. I've tried before (not doing a thorough search, tho...) looking for a 'lock-box' for a TII rear.

I slide the living hell out of my fc and have never even put a single dent in it. Not to say it won't happen :/ and my car runs phenomenal. Yes, drifting does put stress on things that were never even meant to be stressed but I know my car better than must people know their mothers (sad) I've taken apart and put back together almost everything with a bolt in my baby and she still drives and looks amazing. But its all love from me. I still wet my pants everytime I see another fc on the road! Drive them sideways or straight 7's are still the most badass car on the road!

How bent is your frame? If it's that bad you're just going to hobble around trying to slide it.
