WA Need help strategizing for new power train.

Howdy,

I need some advice as to how best to move forward with a motor swap/rebuild for my 91 vert.

My engine has finally started to bleed coolant and I have come up with three viable options (i love my car and have been rebuilding her from scrap basically):
  • Rebuild existing motor with Atkins master kit.
  • Buy a new crate/ re manufactured Motor (keeping my core to rebuild as a backup).
  • Swap out entire motor -trans -rear end-exhaust -cpu-etc and go with a crate/reman turbo 2.

I was looking for some wisdom here from those who have been faced with the same situation. This is a fun street car and not a racer, technically, so i need to stay relatively conservative and favor durability over horsepower.

Thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions

Jake

depends on how much money you want to spend and how much you are willing to work to get this done. i personally would go with the turbo swap but you will need to find a donor vehicle and this would be the most expensive route. NA's are too slow for my liking. most places dont sell "crate" motors, they require a core to be rebuilt. if you are comfortable with building your own motor and are willing to source the parts then i say go for it. it would be a good learning experience and would be cheaper than having someone else build it. if you dont want to mess with it very much, take your motor to someone and have it rebuilt.
