Need help: Reinstalling power steering
Ok so I got my 87 TII with all the p/s removed and looped p/s lines (dry power steering rack). I personally feel this car is a bit too heavy to manage for the motorsport I will be using it for without p/s. So I will be reinstalling it but I'm not sure what all I need. I just bought a remanufactured p/s pump and I know I need all the hoses but what else? I know I will probably need the p/s pulley and belt but I saw this thing on top of the p/s pump on some pics (kind of silvery thing with metal lines going to it it didnt come with my remanned pump). One what is that and two can I rip all of the stuff I need from an na s4 in the junk yard (if it's not an s5 thing only)? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

So out of all the people here who dissable their p/s no one knows whats needed to reinstall it? No one even knows if a s4 na's p/s stuff will work with a s4 TII's?

There is an aluminum bracket that the power steering pump attaches to. There's an idler pulley that you will need on this bracket. Yes you can pull it from a junk yard (I personally would also get the hoses and other parts from a junkyard as well, just inspect the hoses pretty thoroughly). As far as s4 s5 differences, they SHOULD be interchangeable, but I COULD be wrong.
S5 NA's got a different power steering setup, if it's a TII it shouldn't matter. I don't think many people that take it off ever put it back on. I took mine off years ago and haven't looked back.

Well I'm going to use the car for drifting, road racing, and autox. If I was just doing autox and driving road courses I wouldnt mind it but I will admit I will primarily be drifting. With drifting if you accidentally put your finger in the wrong place while the wheel is spinning back (with a dried rack of course) you can break some digits. Also without the p/s I would have to be much more precise with my steering inputs. I was going to just go ahead and swap to a manual rack but that would cost more than just reistalling p/s. My old ae86 had a dried power rack but that car was a few hundred pounds lighter and didnt have as much weight in the front. If the p/s turns out to be too sloppy I will just go with a manual rack but for now I want it back in.
