Need Help with My first RX buy

My very first post after checking out this site many times. I fell in love with these cars as soon I saw one. Anyways on to my post.

I found an RX-7 2nd Gen GSL hiding back in the weeds of an old Junk/Body Shop/Garage? It has been sitting since 2000 and I don't know much more about how much it was driven. I popped the hood an found a clean engine, nothing looks damaged. It looks worn out from just sitting. The dude that owns it Took it to get painted 5 years ago and then forgot about it there. I offered 500 for it and he says he will take it. I can't see any rust underneath. From the looks it just needs a good paint job and a few teeks to lights and such. as for the engine i haven't got a chance to start it or even see if it will.

Id post pics but im not sure how

Any advice would be great. I've been looking at this car since the summer.

well congrats on yoru find but.....since its been sitting for so long...good lck with trying to get it to run. 500 is a great offer jsut remember that youll more than likely need to rebuild the engine before shell run properly again. But good luck and god speed

I'd reccomend changing the oil before you try and start it.

use www.photobucket.com for pictures.

As for the car, id watchout for rotted/mildew interior. You can probably say that the motor wont run, might need a new motor, might need a rebuild. Before you go and pay 500 for it, id get more info about it and see how the rebuild/fixing-up expenses compare to buying a nice one.

Thanks thats all good advice. I'll get the some pics and more info from the dude who owns it. It's just sad to see a waste of such a good car.

2nd Gen GSL? Maybe a GXL?

I've heard a lot of people talk about squirting some oil into the spark plug holes in each
rotor to get it prelubed before trying to crank it. Also, you might not want to run the fuel
in the tank since it's been sitting so long.

Might wanna try those things out and do a compression check first.

Welcome to club! The guys here on the forum can help you with a lot of problems you'll
encounter. Good luck.

Well, nice find and good luck. You shouldnt have too much trouble getting it to run, my brother just bought an 85 with the 12A in it, for $100 and it had been sitting since around the same time. We got it running the day we picked it up.

Drain the fuel tank... that gas has to be disgusting......

Change the oil... its roached

Change the Coolant... its shot as well

pull the LOWER spark plugs and put about a 1/4 teaspoon of ATF in each with an eyedropper or something before you crank it.. and I mean a FEW FRIGGIN DROPS... don't go apeshit with it......

seriously...... 300 bucks sounds a LOT better......
