Need Help Installing Racing Seats

Okay i bought these seats off ebay. Here is the link

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2X-MA...26665373QQrdZ1

There genaric mazda speed seats. The thing is i used my stock seat rails and put it on the mazda speed seats. The mazda speed seats are shorter in width so they dont line up on my car frame. Say the seats are 12 inches in width and to put it onto the car frame they need to match 14inches wide, that is where im stuck. So how do I go about the installation on the seats? This is my first time installing aftermarket seats. Also the mazda seats came with there own seat rails but they dont match up on my car frame.

Not generic, knock off. Don't call them mazdaspeed seats.

The real ones bolt right in.

They are the exact seats i bought in the auction. They look the same, and i think the quality is good.

thats my point i cant put it on top of my olds seats. Okay lets say my old seats are 19 inches wide and the generic ones are 15 inches wide. So the car frame was made for 19inches wide, and when i put it on the generic seats they decrease in width making them not match up to the car frame. Also i used my stock rails on the aftermarket seats.

I'm putting a momo seat into my car right now. I took the stock seat sliders cut off where the little roll pin meets the stock seat so the seats sit flush. Then I re-drilled new holes so the bolts line up.

To make up the 2" difference I am cutting a piece of steel the same width as the mounting feet and welding it to the feet so I can mount it out. Kind of a huge PITA but there isn't much of a choice if you want it safely mounted.

good luck mounting seats like that. its a b*tch, every ebay seat i've seen is rigged with ghetto rails and the seating is too high, and akward to even clear a helmet

heres mine, I just took the measurement need. Went to Home depot and got the metal bars for brackets. When I installed these I post the measurements Try searching............. under jgrts20. BTW theyre very comfortable and the installation took awhile but I did it the best way possible. They ended up fitting prefect after making the proper backets. The driver side was the easiest, the passenger side was abit difficult but I leveled the pass. seat with two extra washers on the door side.

look for seat adapters. You might be able to find them of the right size.
Edit: Is it just me or do the seats theyy sell look like the same frame with different cloth?

Many knock off seats are actually the same as the "aftermarket" "branded" seats, bride for example, its just their "signature" fabric material, frame and cushioning is the same.

ofcourse this only applies to more expensive knock offs.

i seen knock off brides run around 500 and are claim to feel the same as the real deal... except the fabric feels cheap as opposed to the... uh... bride-ish feeling... idk? it even looks authentic with the tags and all.

No, what I meant was that all the seats that person is selling appear to have a total of two designs. In fact the "Mazdaspeed" seat is identical to the "Nismo" seat, but the nismo doesn't say Mazdaspeed on it. Either way, as long as the seat feels good to you it doesn't matter. I have a NEX racing bucket that cost about 300 and I love it. Plus it only weighs 11 lbs.

I *hate* when they take a cheap, generic seat and make a fake brand seat by sticking Mazdaspeed, NISMO, Ralliart, TRD, Mugen, etc on there... doing that with crappy generic four-point harnesses is even worse.

Personally the only aftermarket seats (or harnesses) I'd put in a car would be a brand name reclining seat (not nessicarily a 500-dollar seat, maybe a 200-dollar Corbeau), or an FIA-approved fixed bucket... something you know is actually safe to drive in.

Although there are hundreds of shops in Japan that sell their own bucket seats that seem to work fine... but I'm sure most of them are actually the same seat with different material/colors.

I have some generic knock-off MAZDASPEED seats I got from ebay. It was a pain to get them in, but all you have to do is cut some meatal squares and then either weld or bolt them onto the origional brackest to flare it out. Then measure where the new seat holes should be and drill them out. The passenger side is harder because its on a slant, but just shim it.

Also I've thought about just cuting a long wide strip of metal and bending it to fit like the stock bracket. Then just drill out some holes for the seats. This would solve any clearance issues, but it would be unadjustable. Which you could just un- bolt the seats and drill some new holes if you ever needed to change it.
