Question Need help diagnosing a problem, it's had me stumped for weeks.

So, I recently purchased an FC3S turbocharged model with an NA engine swapped in two owners ago after it was decided that the car wouldn't be raced anymore. This leaves me with a turbo-spec transmission and a totally NA engine with nothing turbocharger-related on it whatsoever.

Recently, after having put a few hundred miles on the car and working to restore it a bit, I had an issue with the check engine light flickering on when I would shift gears, as if the clutch was slipping. It would eventually come on and stay on, leaving me with no power in a random gear. Sometimes first would be fucked, sometimes second, and sometimes third. It would leave me with almost no acceleration and I'd have to use another gear. Also, the car sometimes, albeit rarely, bucked at weird times. Like when it should have been fully in gear.

I figured it was the clutch or something, but being a pretty good stick driver and having recieved the car with no problems, I simply poked around with a mechanic buddy until the problem went away. All we really did was clean out the mass air, and it ran fine.

Now, though, the engine light will come on if I rev it too high, and the car will lose all its power until I shift. It's never really at a specific RPM, though.

Does anyone have any ideas? Any thoughts are much appreciated, since the light is never on long enough for me to pull the codes.

If is an S5 engine.it could be a sign of your Omp starting to go..puts the car into Limp Mode.In your case just enough for the Ecu to notice.
That is a guess though.but Possible.

IF thats your problem heres a few threads:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=Ryan123

Given to me by jackhill:

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/s5-mop-ecu-failure-diagnosis-710938/

Checking the codes:

http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...i=50&co=1&vi=1

If you dont want to read all of them Test the OMP (oil metering pump) and then pull your ECU crack it open CAREFULLY and look for burn marks if so thats your problem.

The codes tell all if nothing comes up from the codes its likey what i just posted

Thanks, both of you guys. That stuff is a little over my head, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out with the instructions all laid out. I'll give that a shot tomorrow.
