Need help with dead RX7

I recently purchased a 88 Rx7 and fell in love with it.
Unfortunately while driving the car died. It lost power and refused to turn over. I had it towed back to my mechanic and he assured me it's not flooded and the fuel pump is working (the most silent fuel pump he has ever seen!). He says that for some reason the computer is not allowing the injectors to open.Does this make sense? Has anyone else had such a problem and what would you suggest my mechanic look for? He is not reaaly a Wankel mechanic but is enthusiastic about the car. My wife thinks I bought a lemon and should get rid of it.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Where in Ottawa did you get this car from? Is it a turbo? How many KMS? I'm looking for a RX7 turbo in Ottawa also....

usually if your motor wont turn over its a dead battery.
I dont see how a bad injector would cause the motor to not turn over.

Unhappy Some clarification

The car's battery is fine. What it needs is gas but for some reason the gas is there, the pump is working but for some strange reason the computer is not allowing the injectors to inject. It seems to be some sort of electronic glitch.
Thanks for all those that respond.

If it is refusing to turn over then I would say it is not an injector problem. If the engine turns, but just doesn't start, then you might have an injector problem. seeing how your car lost power while you were driving I would not think it was the starter. I would not think it was bad seals, because then your engine would still turn, but with a scraping noise. It could possibly be some other underlying electrical problem NOT related to the battery or alternator. For instance, a problem that affects your ignition and your starter. This would account for the power loss on the road and your inability to crank the engine. If it was just the starter then you would not have suddenly lost power, and if it was just the ignition then the engine should still turn.

OK my 2 cents. Gotta eat.

Further clarification

It turns but it seems without the gas nothing happens. When I try to start it I get a vroom and then silence. That awful silence!

No, injectors dont go bad, they can get *somewhat* clogged but I have only ever heard of one injector getting stuck open or shut. They are simple on-off devices.

First thing your mechanic needs to do is a compression check. Especially given your description of power loss while driving.

IF it passes a compression test, then Id physically pull the upper and middle intake, pull the primary(lower) injectors off with the fuel rail adn wires still attatched, and crank the car. This will simulate what happens when you crank. Watch for alternating pulses of fuel spray, if you get this then everything is ok with the ecu/injectors.

Do the comp. test and get back to us.
