Need help choosing tires!!
I just got a new, (well, used actually, but new to me!) set of Konig 17 inch rims, and I am trying to decide what kind of tire to buy for them. I want to do this as cheaply as possible, but still get a good handling set of tires. I came across 3 models from the Tire Rack that seem fairly cheap; Goodyear Eagle GS-D, Kumho ECSTA Supra 712, and Sumitomo HTR Z. Out of these, which would you guys recommend? Are their any other tires out there that would be better (for less than $100 each)? Any good tips on where to get nice tires for cheap?
Also, what size tire would be good for 17x7 wheels? Tire Rack recommends 215/45's, would 225/45's or larger fit? Should I get the same size tires for both front and back wheels?

you need wider wheels for wider tires, 225's may fit but would be better on 17x7.5 wheels. Kumho's are pretty good tires, but don't expect much at less thn 100 bucks a tire. If you have the same size wheels fornt and back, than you'll pretty much have to have the same size tires.

They are 17x7 wheels with a 40mm offset. I don't know what size will fit either. Right now I have 16 inch wheels on my RX-7, they are 225's in the rear and 205's in the front. I know 215's will fit all the way around, and I have 225's on the rear, but I am not sure if you can go any larger than 215's on the front. That was the question I was hoping to have answered.
And all you other guys come on....what kind of tires have you tried on your RX-7s and which did you like the best?

have you thought of the Falken Azenis? A lot of the local autocrossers love them since they are cheap, sticky and conform to STS "street tire" rule.
Just a thought. I'm going to buy them for my 1st gen, money permitting

I have no experience with tires in that price range but as far as size for 17X7 the 215's would be the choice. On all fours.
With a +40mm offset and a 225 on the front, if you're lowered, you might get some rubbing on the spring. I just don't think a 7" width would optimize slip angle and contact patch for a 225.
