Need help choosing alternative on popped motor

My 87 n/a rx7 blew its engine with 63k on it. Unfortunetly i need a car running and i cant spend more than 2k and i'd like to spend less than that. I don't think i can rebuild my current engine because i drove on the blown motor from iowa to chicago and although i don't know a ton about rotaries im sure i ruined the housing and i dont know how good the front rotor is right now after a 4 hour 6200rpm drive. Here are my choices as i see it: 1.) Get a rebuild motor and see if i can part out my factory motor. Maybe get a streetport while i am at it. 2.) If the engine is okay get the rebuild kit and hope for the best (i know a mechanic). 3.) I know of a 87 turbo rx7 for sale for $1500. It has 140k on the chassis, 40k on its rebuilt engine. Unfortunetly it has been sitting for six months, but it did start right up but with a high, unsteady idle. Another concern i have is a bad second gear synchro. There are plenty of other parts that i'd like to transfer to my car: hood, taillights, eibachs, tocikos. I would like to put all the parts in my n/a cause my rx7 body and interior is absolutly mint.

Thanks for replies i am open to any new suggestions. Also anyone in the chicago area that would wanna help me swapping some parts if i go the turbo route would also be more than welcome.

well. you come to a point where you have to choose.

I say go with the turbo.. and install all the turbo stuff into your good N/A engine. As long as the turbo car runs, than.. it runs, period, i'm sure it's just a vac leak or something dumb, get it checked out.. (compression test)

than while you have your n/a engine out, rebuilt it, and install it into another chassis. maybe a beater, everyday driver chassis.. and drive the turbo car on the weekends. i dunno, just a thought

Get the turbo. $1500 is a good price I think.

Does anyone have a good link that will spell out the swap for me and tell me all the components i need to swap. I will be removing the non-functional A/C and air pumps to simplify the swap.
