Don't forget there is a key on the bolts that keep them from turning. If the bolt is covered in grease you might not be able to see it. You just need to take a screw driver to it and pop the key out.

An impact wrench would be strong enough to break the key but doing it with a breaker bar you might not be able to.

You talking about the NUT, right? I have no impact gun and couldn't get the nut off even with the *TAB* raised up out of the groove. Used my dremel motor with a cutoff disc (more like four or five disk), to carefully cut the nut off. Just cut almost down to the shaft, then take a chisel and split the nut. Maybe thirty minutes a nut, if its the nut your talking about. New nut at PepBoys for about three bucks.

Oh yeah, also broke a 1/2 inch breakover bar prior to the cutoff wheel. Not the first tool I've broken. Buy Craftsman and return it for a new one for free.

I'm trying to remove the axle nut right now too and I can't get it off. My problem isn't getting enough torque, but the nut and the whole axle spins every time i try to break it loose. I even reassembled the whole brake so that the brake would hold it in place and after applying so much force, the rotor started slipping. Am i doing something wrong??? How do you keep the axles from rotating with the nut?

Ok. I'm a cheap mf, so I won't buy a impact wrench. I too have broken half inch drive Craftsman breakovers. Here's the cheap man's impact wrench. I bought a twenty pound sledge hammer for ....twenty bucks. The idea is to make sure you have raised up that staked place on the nut. Then put the brake on. Then hold the breakover on the nut with your foot and whack the breakover several times. I'm not talking about raising it over your head with all your might and hitting it. Just give it a good whack several times. Its doing the same thing as a impact gun except not as fast. I've used the same method on the flywheel nut.

I did not break my breakovers using the above method. I broke the breakovers by using a four foot pipe over the already two foot long craftsman breakover, and standing on the pipe and bouncing.

Well, I got them off. Borrowed my friend's air compressor/impact gun that lives right across the street. Lucky me. But now I'm having trouble getting the hub off the axle. This is a pain in the as installation. These toe eliminators better be worth it. Hopefully will be hitting up an autocross sunday to test them out.
