need help ASAP! im stranded.
im driving to work on the freeway and all of a sudden i lost power. my rpm dropped to 0. if i try to gas, it wouldnt do anything. i noticed all my dash lights are on and soon i smelled burning. my power steering seemed to be gone too. (i replaced my power steering belt like 2 weeks ago so its still new) i popped it in neutral and rolled to the next exit and popped my hood. there was smoke coming from my oil cap. it seems that i ran out of engine oil so i walked over to the nearest gas station to buy some engine oil and poored it in. now my car wont start. is my engine blown? i think the cranks, it sounds a little different. or it could just be the sounds from all the electrical stuff. im stuck in sausalito, and i needa be at work. or if anyone lives nearby, i really need a helping hand. thanks

either my oil level dash light isnt working or something cause my oil pressure gauge is at 0 and my time for an oil change is due, i was gonna go get one today or 2m after work.
i used the oil dip stick to check my oil level. and there was none.

Oil starvation? Rebuild engine.
Did your oil pressure drop suddenly (or your oil pressure gauge is broken?) and then the burning kicked in a few moments later? How long were you driving without oil?

Call a tow truck. New engine or part out car. Maybe can't even rebuild the engine, might be too much damage to be worth it. Next car: pull over the moment your oil pressure drops to zero and shut off car. Carefully maintain oil system to prevent sudden loss of oil, especially oil drain plug and oil cooler lines. Likewise maintain the cooling system carefully, b/c a blown engine from a cooling system problem is more common.
If you shut the car off within a minute of the oil pressure hitting zero then the engine might be okay.
