NEED HELP! =( rear tranny seal removal

so i did a clutch swap on my 91 n/a, put everything together, drove it, and i'm leaking tranny fluid from the driveshaft area (so it would be the rear tranny seal right?)

so i bought a new one, and tried prying it out with a screwdriver like so many of you have said, but to no avail...

can somebody give me some tips or help me out??

i miss driving my 7... thanks guys

-Garrett

use a very thin flat head screwdriver and get at it from an angle and tap it with a hammer and it should pop out a little then just pop it out the rest of the way

Either tap around with hammer lightly or find a socket or piece of pipe that fits good and tap it in.

to get it in a small piece of wood over it and one good tap will do the trick

well i busted one new seal today... gonna go pick up another tomorrow, so just a block of wood and a dead blow should do it? when i was trying it today, it doesn't seem like it wants to go in at all....

I had the same problem.... make sure that the old seal is COMPLETELY removed. Also doublecheck if it is for a turbo or N/A, Im not sure if there is a difference, but maybe?

put your head up and look in the hole, hehe. When I replaced mine, a small portion of metal was still in there after dissecting the old one with a screwdriver preventing the new one to go in.

yeah the spring is part of the seal. The new one should have it on there. Remove that old spring and use the hammer and wood method to pop it in there

Either you have the wrong seal, or something is still obstructing it.
