ok since everyone else is flipping over your age i'mma give you the straight-forward answers

1. First thing you NEED to do before you start loading the car up with stickers and fart pipes:

Full tune-up, (coolant, all fluids, brakes, spark plugs & wires, air filter)

Repair any broken parts you have, craked radio surround, hatch shocks etc.

make the car respectable and reliable before you cut into it.

2. Modifications to make:

Free up exhaust (racing beat, borla, bonez, apex'i, corksport)

Intake (note, sticking a cone filter in your engine bay without having it shrouded from the engine bay heat with not net an HP gain, so sheild the intake or do a ture Cold air intake)

Suspension
Struts: KYB, Koni, tein, tokico
Springs: Racing Beat, RS'R, Intrax, Ground Control, Tein, Tokico
Sway bars: Racing Beat, Suspension Techniques
check bushings and DTSS

etc etc etc

oh hell read this whole site!

Concintrate on school and not cars. But if you already have it, take afiew auto courses in HS and also hang around a local auto shop, Preferably a preformance shop. I hung around one for 3 years, and got a job there before they closed, payed off bigtime.

Other than that, learn howto drive in a straight line before you try to drift around. Besides drifting isnt driving, its feeling. You dont try to drift, you just do it . Then after you do it, you pray you dont hit anything, lol. But otherwise, just learn to feel the car at 1st, i would not suggest any upgrades besides rebuilding the engine. Other than that, you should be pretty well off stock if the body and frame are in good condition and not bent at all.

Edit - Make sure you have good brakes, and know howto do a panic stop. Also make sure the suspension is good, and go over the car with a finetooth comb.

My first car was my moms corolla, then my mom kinda gave it away to my cousin, then i bought a TII, it took 2 years of computer building to get my fc. That was @ 16 and now im 18, all i have to say do more research and learned about these car before getting one, but 1st get ur license 1st before even buying a car or anything. Also in like 1year - 2 year time you might want something else.

Turboing them is super easy though, sell it to me, buy a turbo Neon, crash it while trying to pull a stupid drift, limp away.

I'm 17 currently, and I was 15 when I bought my first car, it was an AE86 GTS. Did I have my license at that time? no. Was I one of those ignorant teenagers that blasts music out the windows, thinks their the ****, and assumes that they know everything? Hell ******* no.

I bought that car NON RUNNING, and I didnt even know what a Distributor was at the time. But you bet your *** I got a service manual from toyota, watched and read information on the forums, and did all the work to that car myself. I learned and listened, I didnt talk ****. and when I sold it, that car ran.

I moved onto the FC in april. yeah, I like drifting, but I don't beat the **** out of my car or do anything on the street. My car is an 87 and looks like its barely a year old. The past owners took good care of it and you bet your *** im going to continue that. Nothing pisses me off more than young immature idiots thinking they know everything and just jumping on the fad because they cant think for themselves.

Talking is ****, thats all it is, and you just make yourself look like a complete ignorant ******* when you do. I see and hear things about young idiots trying to drift in a FF car. Complete morons, They watch a movie and think "hey I can do that to!"...complete idiots, attempting something they have NO knowledge about. I swear...some people.

Anyways, My FC has never had a bad day, I do all the matenience, and I never treat it bad. Do I like drifting? Yeah, I do. But When it's safe. doing it in traffic is just dumb, and causing an accident because of that is just unexcusable.

so, basics, your gunna wanna stay NA since your just starting, and worry more on a nice lsd and good suspension components. dtss eliminators are also a good thing to have t omake the car more stable to drift. if the engine has been rebuilt get with the previous owner of the car and ask how long ago, also if there is rust, since you cant drive its a good time to have that taken care of. good for you to learn to drive the car you plan on drifting because you will feel more comfortable. i know i wish i had my 7 before my accord, because i much more comfortable going fast in my honda now.

as for those who think 14 is too young to drift, i just ready an article in drifitng mag. not to long ago about a 15 year old who started learning about drifting when he was like 12 that bought an 86 who is now competing in drift days and doing track days and doesnt even have his lisence yet. its all about determination.

PM for any links on performance, i have alot saved, or search and you'd be amazed at all the drifters you'll find on here. good luck.

thats good advice ted. but it falls on deaf ears. and even though i agree with you, i alwso disagree with you because its my passion, as well as everyone else on here im sure. just sucks that its so expensive and time consuming. but thats the price you pay.

definately if you just want to be cool, id say stick with your normal ricer mods, drop the car, get wheels, get an exhaust, and call it a day. lol.

nah, but it sounds to me my 14 year old floridian friend that you have a LOT to learn of the car world.

agreed not all teenagers are stupid. im 18 and have been driving almost 2 years now. you learn alot from seat time, and nothing from staring at the car, but at hte same time seat time involves being safe and thats whats really important. no reason to endanger anyone or yourself.

on a side note, i wish my fc looked like it was a year old, but mine is getting close to looking good. maybe 5 our 6 years old instead of 16 haha

Wrong. All teenagers are stupid. The difference is that they don't realize they were stupid until later.

Also, stupid is a relative term. No one is as smart at 16 as they are going to be at 20 (unless they get hit in the head with a pickaxe or something).

The difference is that some 16 year-olds are stupider than others.

i hate when people are condescending only on the basis of age.

I'm 17 and honestly, more mature than most adults i know.

so no, not all teenagers are stupid.

yes stupid IS a relative term. if you want to look at it like that, then you are ALWAYS stupid, because you never know as much today as you will tomorrow.

its not out of the question to have a teenager with the maturity level and/or education equal to or even greater than that of, say a 30 year old.

not trying to spark a forum argument, but please, please do not judge by age. that is in itself a gret act of immaturity AND ignorance.

Thats alittle biased and farfetched dont you think? Dealing in absolutes tends to be very innacurate, it's like saying all rotaries are unreliable, or all japanese people watch anime.

I for one am more mature than most adults I know, just because I watched, learned, and didnt act like I knew. I don't know everything. And anyone who says that they do couldnt be more wrong. You learn something new everyday.

Im a teenager myself and i agree. they can say whatever they want but when theyre int eh captains seat, its alllll different. i admit, ill look back and think i was stupid at this age. but like you said, some are stupider and less responsible for their actions than others.

ALL teenagers are stupid.

Sell the FC and get a 240sx. It is much more suited for what you want and you won't get trashed everytime you ask how to drift on this forum.

I bet you have never drifted. Ever.

Do something worthwhile and restore the car. Replace everything and do a lot of replacing stock equipment with stock equipment. You will gain a better understanding of the car and will respect the car enough NOT to drift it. I'm trying not to be rude but you really really need to learn a lot about cars if you actually want to be into cars. I know a lot of people who are "car guys" who have no idea what they are talking about. Put down the Super Street or Compact Tuning and Underwater Engine Building or whatever kids read these days.

You have to actually learn how to drive before you can MaD tYtE dOrIfTo!

i can agree with that since i know i did some stupid stuff when i used to bmx when i was 15 or 16 that i would look back on and be like "why the hell did i trry that", although since i was 16 i have alway promoted driving safely, and when racing, have the proper safety equipment. i also wont let anyone ride in my car that wont where a seatbelt. i think its stupid not to

Wow...14 years old. Better enjoy the car before you get to college, because when you get into real academics, there won't be much time for joy riding.
