Question Need 'fast idle' help from an EXPERT !!!

My '86 turbo was working ok until my ex-mechanic had a go at it ! It was idling at around 2K and slowly dropping back to normal idle once warm. Nothing wrong there ! But I felt that the doing 2K on a stone cold engine with no oil circulation wasn't a good thing and asked the mechanic to see if he could drop it down to say 1300rpm.
The problem is that he stuffed it up somewhat !
It starts ok, jumps to 2k as before and 2 seconds later goes back to 800rpm or so ! No fast idle at all. Now he's since moved to another state and I'm trying to work out what he could have adjusted to do this as the fast idle is electronically controlled in the turbos not a thermowax setup like the non-turbos. If anyone can explain (in detail preferably!) how the fast idle works, I'd be grateful !

I musta been robbed! My 87 has a thermowax, fast idle cam etc. Darn! This 87 Factory Manual must be wrong. Can't trust anybody. Humor.

Seriously not an espert here. But if you wanted to rid yourself of the accelerated warmup system where the car races to approx 3000 rpm for 16 seconds and then drops down to say 1200 and slowly goes to the normal idle of 750, all you have to do is go to the switch that is attached to the bottom left side of your radiator. It has two wires attached to it. Undo one or both if you are supersticious (can't spell). The car should not go into the accelerated warmup cycle now. The only other thing that will be effected by disconnecting that sw,is the relief valve in the air control valve. It, if memory serves, will relieve all the time. You will never know it. It hurts nada. Hook it back up for emissions testing. By the way, I believe your car should still have the thermowax device and fast idle screw setup, unless somebody removed it.

Another way to rid yourself of the 3000 rpm for 16 seconds at startup is to disconnect the AIR BYPASS SOLENOID, just aft and above the bac. Its got an about 1/2 inch hose going from it to the intecooler. This would be preferable to the water temp sw on the botton of the radiator.Just a thought.

Exclamation

Thanks for the suggestions BUT I don't want to get rid of the 2k rpm start, I want to get it back ! The temp sensor (not on the radiator on Aus. cars - placed elsewhere...) and the bypass stuff has all been checked and working. The US models are obviously slightly different to the Aus models - we get electronic fast idle not the thermowax variety... although the KISS principle would have made this problem easy...
Any more suggestions ???
