Need Answer ASAP! Is this a S4 or S5?

I got a Jspec and I asked for a S4 block.

I think it's a S5 though. The OMP has a wiring plug going to it. Do the S4's have any plugs going to them???

I need an answer before I start tearing this engine down.

I hope to god it's S4 if not then I have t send it back and get the right one.

Any other external things wihch would point to which model it is?

I'd love to have a S5 engine but I already bought the parts for an S4 and I have a 88 GTU.

Electrical plugs on the OMP mean it's an S5. Also look for the knock sensor, which is on the center plate under the oil filler pipe on S4's or on the front rotor housing above the spark plugs on S5's.

If it's an S5, get ready to do some parts swapping.

**** it's a S5.

Dammnit. I really don't want to swap the front cover. That and it's more money to rebuild the ******* S5's

Hmm maybe I can ask Kevin to swap the covers for an extra cost. I don't want to **** with that cover.

Or I would have to get another harness, ecu, gauage cluster.

Oh damn and my Tach won't go all the way up either.
DAMN!!

Great. Now it's not like I'm already doing an engine swap for the first time ever and going from NA to tII and changing Series engine . Oh wait yeah that's me!

WEll, dont know how this does on a S4 car...

but my car is a 89 GTU. It's actual shortblock is S4... S4 block, rotors, etc. And also the LIM is S4. EVERYTHING else that makes up the engine, including the rest of the intake, and ECU, are all S5. If you have your S4 longblock "accessories" I dont see why it wouldn't work... Again, only experience I have with this is the fact that the car I have, has a S4 block, but it is a S5 car...

Hope you get your issue resolved, best of luck,

Jonathan

Ahh...if only you were closer to San Francisco, CA. I would have traded you for that S5 block for my extra S4 TII block...

I'm glad to have the s5. Kevin at rotoryresserection has got a great write up on this swap I'm sure all will be well for you. Or you could go back to who you purchaced from. warrenty or not if you didnt get what you thought you were getting GET SOME. Corbit

it costs more to rebuild a S5 motor? I was thinking of buying a s5 motor and replaceing my s4 w/ the s5 later... but if it's that much trouble, i'd much rather rebuild a s4 and just swap them out.

if you decide to run the s5 engine in an s4 you'll need to change some other things besides TB and front cover and OMP. you'll need to use all the s4 electronics ie air flow meter, ecu, boost sensor, injectors, knock box and wiring harness. about the gauge cluster, you can't just put it in a s4 n/a and expect it to work because the n/as don't have the extra wire in the harness behind the dash that controls the boost gauge. just save the time/money and get an autometer boost gauge. don't forget to upgrade your fuel pump, the n/a fuel pump won't handle the t2 engine fuel diet.

I already have a TII slave clutch cylinder/n333 ECU/S4 Harness/Aftermarket boost gauge/etc.

Pretty much everything for a S4 TII conversion except the NA Hybrid driveshaft/downpipe/and TII starter.

So would my NA Throttle body work on the TII or are they different? If I keep the engine I will have to go buy new injectors. Maybe go with 720 secondaries and an SAFC if I can find the money.

the throttlebody on the t2 is different, it's backwards compared to the n/a because on the n/a the intake tube comes from the pass. side and the throttle cable is on the backside, where the t2 tb has the ic pipe coming in the driver side while the throttle cable is also at the back near the firewall.
