Need advice on an 88

I'm looking at buying an 88 turbo, 5 speed, with around 110k on the body and 25k on the engine. The car has a few upgrades (exhaust etc) but nothing major. It drives nice, everything works, paint is great etc. The seller is asking 4k, but I know I can get him down. No my question is, where are the trouble spots on these cars and what should I look for before I buy?

I bought my 88 with 77k original miles, no rust, some mods and no radio for $4500 about a year and a half ago. The dude wanted $5k but i thought that was too much even for the nicest FC's.
I'll tell you where i fucked up so that you watch out for these problems cuz there very common on FC's of this year.
1. Check the idle, more than likely its going to be messed up. To this day i have not been able to get it fixed but im slowly getting it done. This can get the price down significantly because its so hard to actually find the EXACT reason for idle problems that theres no way to tell how much itll cost to fix it.
2. Your in cali so check on emissions equipment, it might be missing some or perhaps no fuction well so that you dont pass and this is an extreme pain in the ***. Ask the seller if the vehicle will pass emissions and if he says hes not sure or no then that like at the very least $500 off
3. 3800 rpm hesitation. Drive the car no matter what to see how it is over all but while your driving it take it up past 3800 and see if theres any hesitation of any kind. This is huge. A majority of 88 TII have this problem.
4. If the owner has done work to the vehicle ask for reciepts to have proof of work done and where it has been done, just in case you have some future problems with the mods you have a refrence on who installed it.

If the vehicle has any of the first 3 conditions you can easily take off a good 500-1000 dollars off the price just to compinsate for the repairs your going to need. And this is very SUTTLE! Some ppl would go even lower or perhaps not even buy the car.
Anyways dude this is jsut my reccomendation from what i have been through. FC's are great cars but there very quirky cars to deal with. They need very special care and having a good owner who understands these quirks is key.
Good luck
