Neat idea, or not?

ok i know a bit about rx-7's and a lot to do with engine type stuff. and i can pump gas too.

but anyway i was dicking out in the junkyard today looking for a caliper for my DD. also--read my other post about how my luck has changed for some cool **** that happend to me today! and if your'e wondering any details about that story ask away!

anyway i saw a vette, i think it was a 75-79, not exactly sure because the front and back ends were tore to ****, but i also know that it has a nice tranny on it. coudl i look into getting this tranny for my car? i know it sounds pretty stupid but i'm curious aside form a little fabrication---if it could work. i know vettes are fast and have decent gearing but i'm not really too sure of what exactly makes them good tranny's. well if you have any feedback ideas, sugestions or whatever leave me one. oh and if you flame me that's ok too.

Peace,
Marla

Why?

I'm a professional, and I can think of no reason to do this, but can I imagine how much work and dollars it would cost.

While you were at it, you could put the Vette engine in it too.

Of course, that kind of draws away from the Mazda rotary mystique...

Much work- little reward. It would probably yield dissapointing results. The vette tranny, if an auto for that year range would be somewhat sluggish; and the manual would be way too heavy for the Mazda motor. (can you say "loss of momentum?") There would be so much internal weight to push around just to get the power to the wheels that it would need to be a TII just to get moving.

That might solve that annoying low gear hopping problem described in a few recent posts, though...

did you happen to check if the shifter is in the right place? if not, its costly to move it, not worth the money in this case.

i guess that's why i asked huh??

didn't know **** about that tranny so i asked. yes it was a manual and not an automatic. i know rotaries and automatics are like oil and water. i was just curious if this tranny had anything to offer that the stock n/a tranny lacked. didn't know weight, allthough the size is roughly the same size and could easily be transplaned with not too much of a hastle, i know people who have modified drivetrains before and have good luck with it.

so that's why i asked. and might i quote this

"And you wanted to start a poll about this????"--Icemark

what the hell does having a poll have anything to do with your ego problems? i was curious so i asked and it's easy for me to read polls and since i'm lazy it works good. so if it's not your tactic for finding out answers i don't give a fack. leave your personal **** at home and just be cool on here.

Peace,
Marla

again, i really dont see where i am in the wrong here. i can totally understand getting flamed for saying something totally off the wall and stupid, but when i ask about information because i'm a curious person that makes me vunrable to you ******** coming down on me because you have egos the size of texas? in all honesty this message board has helped me a ton but lately it just sucks because of people like you thinking you're superior to ******* everybody else on the planet. so what if you drive a supra, rx-7 or whatever the **** you want to, can afford to, or have to drive. it's a ******* car, NOT LIFE.

i simply asked for input, got flamed--that i can deal with---but then got insulted because i wanted to start a poll, why? because they're easy for me to read---because yes i do have adhd and a short *** attention span and when something keeps my interest i'm more likely to follow up on it when it's made a little simpler.

oh and i really don't need to worry about being cool. 2 reasons.

1. it's the internet, who ******* cares. you could be saying you are the prince of iowa and nobody could prove otherwise and

2. i don't have many friends in real life to impress and the ones who like me actually like me for who i am and even though i may start a poll or 2 once in a while they don't yell at me for that.

Peace,
mr. uncool

****, i thought icemark was sombody else and not a mod. dammit my bad. i apologize. but does putting up polls slow down the site or anything? i'm curious why i shouldn't use them. and why it's ok for other people to put them up on what wing is better or whatever.

thanx

Why should it matter if he is a mod or a regular forum member? You made a rude comment, it shouldn't matter who it was too...although, **** off a mod and you are toast.

In general over half of the polls in here are on dumb **** stuff. If you spend enough time in here, you will see that there are a group of hard-core enthusiasts (myself included) that take offense to v-8 conversions or anything RICE. Your question falls in that category. If you asked about let’s say swaping a Cosmo part in, you would have 50 replies with help. It’s the nature of the beast.

marlaman if you want lower gearing you change your rear end gears. Its alot easier than changing tranny gear sizes. If you want acceleration while pushing around 150hp I would suggest getting some 4.60 gears made unless you do alot of highway driving. 4.60 gears at 80mph would put you at around 6k rpms and would not really be that fun for long hauls. If you still need the highway miles go with 4.44

The number of people that even even comprehend the ability to swap in a non-Mazda tranny into the car that vote in the FC section, can be fit into a tiny tiny box.

You simply are wasting your time and the forums bandwidth for a poll about such a subject. Maybe it was simple for you, but not thought out the least bit.

My ego has nothing to do with it. I did not flame you and insult you at all. Your ego seems to be hurt though over my simple post asking why you thought that this topic warrented any sort of poll. A poll that people have voted in that don't even know where the fuel filter is on a FC. I am sure those people voting will be a great help in you figuring out your question.

However you have flamed and insulted. If I was a vendictive person, I would simply close this thread, just because of your own flames in this thread.

But instead I will let it go, and hope only that you have requested email notification for every vote and reply in this thread, so that a year from now when some newbies vote again in this poll you will get junk from it.

well icemark when you said "and you wanted to start a poll about this????" it came off as an ******* commenting to me, granted you didn't mean it that way but when you say just that sometimes people can misenterpret it, espically if you don't elaborate on what you say, i apologize for being rude to you but it's commonplace in the forum--and sadly less on ricer forums--to get flamed by a know it all.

thank you to bukwild for trying to help me also.

and i know there would be a ton of work involved in swapping a tranny from a vette into a 7, so i guess my question was pretty badly worded and i apologize. i guess i was curious is i could get a good effect form doing that perhaps instead of changing the rear gear ratios. and i never would have thought about this on my own but i've seen some things a while ago about people putting a 6 speed vette tranny into turbo 2's. so that is where my curiousity stemmed from. but yeah anyway i see it's a bad idea now.

thizanks,
Marla
