NEAR stock GTU... (taking to track tom night)

I weighed my car today at the local scrap yard. It's weight with a 1/4 tank of gas, my tools from work (25pnds+), a full system (2 full size amps and speakerbox), spare, ABSOLUTLY NO weight reductions and WITHOUT me in it... the car weighs... 2810pnds.

Here's a list of how the car's set-up (90 GTU)...

-a cone type filter in place of the stock airbox
-Stock exhaust except for the removal of the cats
-3.90 non LSD rearend, since the car was orginally auto
-Big 18' rims... Even though they're the same height/OD as the stock wheels due to a lower profile tire... They are much HEAVIER then stock.
-Very SHITY clutch... slips in second when I try to powershift... car can't even do a burnout...
-S4 motor
-Tokicos struts/shocks and Eibach springs
-EVERYTHING else is STOCK.

Just for ***** and giggles... I'm going to take it to the track Friday night and see what she does.

I have alot of ideas of what can be done to make her faster and I'd like to keep track of the progress from start to finish... Believe me, it doesn't get any closer to the begining then this. My 2nd gen is fun to drive by all means... but it's slow.

Wow.. abnormally high, isn't it? Is it the rims adding huge to the ET or what?

(my stock 95 Escort will run a 18.0, and it has 88HP )

18.5 my guess.

I have a 88 SE which ran 17.4 w/ 152k on engine.
My 88 GTU stock with 15' rims did a 17.1 first try w/ 82k on engine. (<-- has LSD,TII suspension, one of the lightest too 2600-ish)
It's abnormally slow, so i think compression isn't great on it.

I'm guessing since you have A LOT of unsprung weight that you are easily into 18's and with the added weight of an S5 body with less horse of S4 you'll be beaten by ever civic there.

Oh yea... the motor only has 12K miles on it... entire new seal kit... ALL housings were MINT condition... And it was put together by a very reputable rotary shop in my area. Orginally built for my 1st gen before I went turbo. NO corners were cut in the rebuild. So the motor is STRONG.... not some weak junkyard swap.

Friday night driving like I always do... I nailed a pothole busted a gapping hole in my sidewall...

Totally ruined my plans for early departure for Sat. morning... instead I was running around from shop to shop (rim/tire dealers) looking for a NEW matching Nitto555 to no avail. I wound up setteling for a $50 used tire that totally doesn't match and a new Nitto is in the mail....

It's all good though because my brother who was supposed to go to the track with his small block **** talker (easy 12 secs on muscle) wasn't ready either....

So it's on AGAIN for this coming Saturday. My brother's now trailering his car which is a plus in case anything should go wrong with my car (which I doubt since it's stock but just in case) I'll have a way to get it back.

I jumped on it on a back road by my job and I think as long as I don't miss 2nd-3rd shift I could pull a 15 (ok 16's) for sure. It has all it's power in the 6K+ rpm range... and even though my clutch slips trying to do a burnout/powershift it still works if you nuture it like I know how....

We'll see... THIS SATURDAY for SURE.... I'll keep you's posted.

Ok, finally took the car to track... Englishtown NJ. Wendsday nite time trials.

It was 80 deg. out and the car ran a 17.41.

My 60' was HORRIBLE... 2.576

Clutch is BAD. I'm looking at ACT's. Any advice on best clutch setup for the dailydriver / weekend warrior..?

A TurboII Rear / 4.10 / LSD is going in as soon as I get a chance. I just got my hands on the halfshafts.

I also got myself an aluminum hood. Quick question... Isn't the GTU supposed to come w/an aluminum hood factory...? Cause mine doesn't have one...? Well, it will now.

I'll keep an update using this post to any other future mods and times.

Why do you want to downgrade to a 4.1? I thought the GTUs has a LSD and a 4.3 making it faster than a 4.1 no?

He doesnt have a GTUs , he just has a GTU, which didnt necessarily come with an aluminum hood. Any of the ACT disc setups should be great for the street. Id shy away from the puck clutches, as they are hard to slip and can eat the flywheel, and really arent necessary unless making alot of power.

The ACT street/strip clutch should be all that you will need. It can take the beating and its fine for the street, hardly any difference on pedal pressure, but it does bite faster.
