Exclamation NA gearbox on s4 TII?

Hi guys!

So, i have a problem with my gearbox on my 7en... its a S4 TII 1987...

I think the synchrounus are gone, also the 2. gear is going to brake...

I have a gearbox from a NA in my garage... will this gearbox fit on my S4 TII with slightly mods? any links for this??

thx!

No, unless you make a custom driveshaft. Or you change to an NA driveshaft and NA rear end (diffs/halfshafts.)

@Dan

thx 4 the tipp!

I've all of the NA @ home... so axes, diffs, shafts etc.
but are there some negative points if i build my TII "back" 2 an NA ?
or should i better get off my gearbox an rebuild it?

@RETed

cause i drive the car every day and its not the first gearbox ******* me up (also on my pajero 3l V6... the same problems like in the 7en, there were synchrounus and 2nd gear broken...)

and when i've done my last oilchange 2 weeks before, there was MANY MANY **** in the oil...

Yeah, if you convert to an NA drivetrain, it will be weaker than the TII setup. Personally, I think its a bit too much work considering you're eventually going to swap back to the TII setup right?

I would try looking for another TII tranny.

Why? That would essentially give you a N/A transmission. It would look like a TII... that's about it. I won't even get into whether you can or not (probably because I have ABSOLUTELY no idea )

NO.

The guts are unique for both transmissions and are not swappable.

Here's one to throw at you. What if you have a GXL with the limited slip rear and wanted to stick in a turbo tranny....do you still need the modded driveshaft?

I would think so, if the tranny is the only thing that changes, you'll need a driveshaft that matches that tranny.

Right, but since the TIIs had the limited slip option, it shouldn't be too difficult to track down the shaft that matches the tranny as well, eh? I've also heard that automatic driveshafts might work as well, although I haven't seen any evidence to back that up.
